New Online Community for Collectors
We’re building a better online community for record collectors. Aside from average collectors, we’re making space for taste makers, record stores, labels, etc. who will have the opportunity to host their own “rooms” to share content and events, sell their stuff, grow and share their audiences, and e...

Spare Blanks?
Hello friends!
Does anyone happen to have any spare 7" round/clear blanks they'd be willing to sell? My order is in the Myshank queue but I'm in a pinch for next week. I'm willing to grease ya a little and/or reimburse your stock once my Myshank order arrives.
Anyone? Many thanks!

Re: Presto 1D Head Needs Help!
Just a quick follow up to report that my head came back from Todd at DGM better then it had ever been before.
Todd was quick, super thorough, great communication, and I couldn't give a higher recommendation. Thank you Todd!

Presto 1D Head Needs Help!
Hey all -
My Presto 1D is on the fritz. I've used a multi meter to trace the lack of signal all the way to inside of the head, and now I have no idea what to do. See attached pictures. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be oh so grateful.

Re: Rek O Kut Challenger Blowing Fuses
Thanks for this! Do you know I can test both of these scenarios? I'm not sure which is the heater, or plate, or kathode.Radardoug wrote:But if the tube has a heater to plate short, that would do it. Or heater kathode short.
I think I'll order a new caps anyway since I know they've never been replaced.

Re: Rek O Kut Challenger Blowing Fuses
Update: Attached is a picture of the Sprague Capacitor that's in the unit. See attached picture. Googling Sprague A-1546 doesn't yield much, though there does seem to be plenty of Sprague Caps on eBay. I'm not even sure how to get the damn things out of the unit, much less purchase the correct one a...

Re: Rek O Kut Challenger Blowing Fuses
Thanks Mark! I think you've helped me narrow. The fuse blows as soon as the rectifier tube goes in. So next step is to replace that filter cap, yea? I suspect that is what's under the those 2 silver cylindrical things. Any idea where I can find replacements? I tugged a little on those things and the...

Re: Rek O Kut Challenger Blowing Fuses
Hey, thanks so much for the reply! Yes, I was referring to the main fuse on the front of the amp. I replaced the rectifier tube (5Y3) and since Maindrag Music here in Brooklyn had 6V6s laying around, I replaced those too. At first, the amp stayed on for awhile, though I couldn't get any signal to th...

Rek O Kut Challenger Blowing Fuses
Hi all - Firstly, thanks so so much in advance for all of the great information you're always all so willing to share.... I have a Rek O Kut challenger with a Presto 1-D that works like a dream. We moved it to a new office this week, a 2 mile commute. When I plugged it in, it immediately blew the fu...

Re: 78rpm cuts w/ sped up source?
You can do that, but it will kill the high frequency response. Consider the bandwidth of the head. Let's say 8 Khz, for the typical Recordio. That would reproduce at 4.6Khz at 45 RPM and 3.4 Khz at 33 RPM when slowed down. That's pretty poor performance. Yup, tried it and thats exactly the experien...

78rpm cuts w/ sped up source?
Does anyone know any reason I shouldn't cut at 78rpms, with a source that's been sped up, so that if played back at 45 or 33, it plays correctly? I've read the posts about people slowing their source down, cutting at 33 w/ the end result being a record that plays correctly at 45. Wondering if I can ...

Presto 5C vs 1D
Hi all - Long time reader first time poster.... Wondering if anyone knows how the Presto 5C head differs from the 1D. I have a K8 that does pretty well (for a K8 anyway) but am considering an upgrade to a Rek o Kut Imperial w/ a Presto 1D head. I understand that the Imperial itself is a big upgrade ...
