How are the pro drivers built? Are they build like speakers, so that there's a voice coil that moves over a stationary magnet? Or is the coil stationary, with the magnet moving inside of it?
Thanks...

Re: introducing my diy lathe assembly phase
...I thought along the lines of if there is a leverage increase because of some added distance between the stylus tip and the point at which the drivers contact the stylus mount, then that may in effect reduce the amount of necessary drive from the cones as force asserted there would/could be ampli...

Re: introducing my diy lathe assembly phase
On reading your reply again, I may have misunderstood your question about stylus tip to pivot point, are you referring to the point from which the cones make contact with the surface they affect pressure on to the stylus tip? Sometimes it's difficult to ask a question, properly, when one doesn't kn...

...your cutter will work best if extreme ligth. . . Thanks for your reply... My understanding is that the pressure of the cutter should be significantly greater than the pressure of a turntable stylus. Because the cutter needs to cut a groove. I also understand that this can be achieved either by f...

Re: Achieving proper cutting depth
Hi, Maybe this will help. Even the pro cutter heads can't handle much more that 10 watts on a continuous basis... Hope that clears things up. Hi Mark, Thank you for taking the time to explain this. It does help. I can see that it really depends on what one ultimately wants to build. Building a reco...

Re: introducing my diy lathe assembly phase
Hi Carlos, Looks good. I was wondering if you feel like sharing any technical details about your build. What I'm interested in are the following specs. 1- What speakers are you using? How many Watts? And is there a link to a "buy" page? 2- The cones... I've been doing some mental planning about how ...

Re: Achieving proper cutting depth
...The cutter is attached to a pivoting bar that is suspended by a spring... Ah, OK, this makes sense. I'm glad I asked, though. ...don't expect people to give you part numbers or specific measurements... Are those considered trade secrets? Is it considered uncool to ask? Sorry, newbie questions. B...

Achieving proper cutting depth
A week ago I didn't even have a clue how records were made and now I want to make a lathe. Well, that's because I've always been a DIY-er and when I get fascinated by something I want to build it. So, as I'm learning about this whole process I've noticed that there are basically two systems that can...

How many lathe builders are here
Greetings, The thing that brought me to this site were multiple Google searches for home made record lathes. I did find a few posts about that on this board but I can see that lathe building only makes up a small percentage of all discussions here. As a newbie I wonder how many lathe builders freque...

New Member Adinol Introduction
Greetings, I did notice an entire thread where newbies are welcome to say hello, but thought, in my case, it would be better to start my own "hello" thread. First about me. I am a passionate DIY-er who likes to build stuff, as much as possible, from salvaged and found materials. I built a couple of ...
