That is mine. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me here. The head checks out just fine with an Ohm meter and makes sound when hooked up to an amp. In other words, it works. I also have the weird cover that came with the overhead, it just isn't in the pictures because it obscures the workin...

Hey Flo, do you have any idea what the supply vs demand situation is going to be on the Caruso? I would really love to have one, but my financial situation is ever-changing and I really can't, say, get on a waiting list and guarantee that I'll have the $1500 or so when the time comes. Will you have ...

Wow, that thing looks like it just fell out of a time machine. I've always thought Recordios looked really fuddy-duddy, but that would look right at home with the rest of my furniture

Honestly, if he's supplying a clearly marked PCB and a parts list, all you'll really have to have is mastery of is through-hole soldering and reading resistor codes (unless it's surface mount  ). Hell, when it comes to resistor codes, there's even "an app for that." Coming from a synth DIY ba...

Sorry to say, but you're not going to be able to cut PVC with a diamond needle using any of the refurbished units on the West Tech site. Those all have crystal cutting heads which are comparatively low-fi and cut well below normal volume levels. A pro-sumer grade Presto (6N) or Rek O Kut (Challenger...

Going on Mark's advice, I'm going to try to get this thing going with a solid state stereo receiver putting out 100 watts at 8 ohms. In the long run, do I need to worry about this damaging either the amp or the cutter head? Additionally, would anyone happen to know what stylus I should get from Apol...

Huge Nick Cave fan. Still lack to own a copy of Door Door by Boys Next Door on vinyl, just can't ever seem to find one whilst digging
Funny you should mention that. My girlfriend just found a copy of that a week or two ago.

Hi Andrew, I get the same results as you assuming 1.65mh and 3.7 ohms DCR. Not sure under what conditions the Grampain was measured (the spec states 1Khz). So ,I can't quite make the numbers jibe, but they are in the ballpark. I think in any event, the DCR readings are probably fine. I'd be concern...

Nice pictures. Grobbing Thistle. I used to have some Thob' on vinyl, back in the early 80's... Also, SPK and the Birthday Party. (: As for the Duotone Van Eps cutterhead, from p. 53 of Disk Rercording (by Robert K. Morrison), "...A rather similar cutter [to the Grampian type B1/A and B1/B] was the ...

The Van Eps is also mounted to the Arctarus, the somewhat mysterious, Les Paul designed lathe http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DnUsVt3MsBw/SYgX4eMuL0I/AAAAAAAAARM/yRfocfKlTe0/s1600/Arcturus7b.jpg Here's a photo from a recent ebay auction, and one I've taken of the guts of the thing http://i207.photobucket....

Van Eps Cutter Head

Hi All - I've recently come into possession of a sort of mysterious cutting head. It's a Van Eps Duotone (only other information on the front is "X-15"). Here's the info I've been able to gather on it. The Van Eps was the cutter head of choice for Peter Bartok, son of the famous composer Bela Bartok...
