i also added a second gear to the motor to do things like increase lines per inch so i can record audio at 45rpm or record at 33 with audio slowed down to play back at 45, having two sized gears gives me more options for recording and recording time.

i think my plan for discs may be to buy a bandsaw and cut the discs myself with a template i figure a weekend of cutting mackrolon would get me enough to last a while and with both sides protected i should be fine
