Re: Need modern record for handcranked Gramophone/Victrola
Hi, I’ll second Kim Gutzke of customrecords.com for what you are looking for. A one-off disc is not inexpensive, however Kim offers a disc that will play on an acoustic gramophone. Kim is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. He uses a Fairchild 740 Lathe outfitted with a Westrex 3DII cutterhead....

Re: Power Conditioner Advice!
I use furman stuff, one in my recording studio with LIFT and seems to work fine. Always good to get one, used monster ones come cheap on eBay They make a bunch of filters, even jensen has an expensive one. Got to just do the buy and try dance for a while, most companies are pretty lenient on returns...

Re: Power Conditioner Advice!
Your amps and computer supply are grounded and other devices aren't causing interference most likely. A power conditioner doesnt help much honestly. Ways I've found to fix is: 1. Get a UPS battery for better isolation between certain devices. This is a technique in the hi-fi world. 2. Get a ground l...

Re: Leitz Microscope Light
Got an LED flashlight from amazon with zoom feature to fine tune the light, seems to work fine when holding it up to it. Now I'll have to find a solution to hold it there cleanly (home depot scavenging).

Have a VMS-66 and it is missing the leitz microscope illumination attached to the microscope. Anyone have a lead on an extra?

Re: Scully 601 Lathe, Westrex 3D head turnkey stereo system
This Scully is still available! Please get in touch if you're interested. I won't be offended by any offers. I realize the Apollo fire has made the market more uncertain, but I'm sure it's just a temporary situation until a new company is selling lacquers. Market feels uncertain but someone will gi...

Presto 8n Motor Noise
My motor is making grinding/something is lose sounds when you shut it off. I cleaned it out through the oil spots using WD40 then re-lubricated it using 3 in 1. My motor capacitor might be going out but I dont think this would be a symptom of that. Anyone had this issue? Also, question, there is onl...

Re: Rapid vertical movement w VR
My thought too a couple weeks ago, maybe i didnt clean mine enough. Was thinking it hits a spot in the screw with crud and digs then lifts up. I noticed it in a similar region on my discs too.
Let me know if/how it goes away!

Re: Rapid vertical movement w VR
I just separated the veneer from touching so time will tell on that. First biggest thing to check is the precision platter (platter run out), make sure there are no sudden slope then drop in the level when testing with the pressure gauge. Do you order from MyShank? Maybe we all are experiencing a ba...

Re: Rapid vertical movement w VR
I also have this happening recently on one VR. Tried everything, new oil in dash, rebalancing, more weight less weight, oil screw... still happens every 10 records or so. It will dig deep then bounce out (not out of phase ever). I need to check stability of the bearing inside the TT. Maybe since run...
