Re: why cutterheads are so power-hungry?
Hi, Probably. But keep in mind if you feed the head with much more than 10 watts or so (depending on your driver's power handling) on a long term basis it will fry. You need the reserve power to make the mass of the cutting stylus accelerate when cutting high frequencies. The power is only needed f...

Re: Melted Plastic On Stylus
Yes Acetone is your friend.... Much thanks! Yes, I soon found out the suction is very important. Emptying the container every new cutting day. I've indeed taken my time cleaning the stylus. I've used the bottle I got from Souri. It's prob acetone. It took me hours to get rid of everything. Perhaps ...

Re: What happened to the DRC (desktop record cutter)?
Oh nvm, found a picture with a cutter head installed! Too bad the Kickstarter didn't went through. It's not how many times you fall but how many times you get back up! I really hope the team behind the hardware finds a way to bring the project back to life. What about production in smaller batches, ...

Re: What happened to the DRC (desktop record cutter)?
Does anyone remember the Desktop Record Cutter kickstarter campaign? There website is down and there Lathe Trolls account is dead. I think they sold a few on the campaign and I want to know where I can buy one! Thanks. I wonder if they ever had a fully functional prototype to begin with? I've never...

Yes Acetone is your friend. And take all the time in the world while cleaning it, never touching the diamond with your hands. Using the microscope. I like to use cotton swabs from MG Chemicals cleaning, with the stylus cleaner from myshank.com, it's an eco friendly solution and it works. Acetone wil...

Re: T560 - Acetate
You'll need precision plate and motor. Beware with acetates, that lead out groove when you stop the motor to make the final loop, don't go over 1 and 1/4 turn! More than two turns, guaranteed to damage the stylus (it will go through the sheet!).

Re: VR T560 head weight/dashpot adjustment issue
While holding the scale with stylus in neutral position, as soon as you start turning the dial for the damper, you can slowly see the grams building up. *Before calibration for stylus neutral position, your damper has to be in a non compressed (or stretched) position. I dont think you should ever ha...

Re: looking to buy: technics SP10 or 1200
There is one listing at 400$ USD for a pair, from a seller with 100% feedback, +4000 sales on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Technic-Sl-1200Mk2-DJ-Turntables-Pair-NO-CARTRIDGES/332431309646 Acetone will work nicely to remove the paint job. Aside of that one, there are others at the ~ $400 USD rang...

Re: Diamond Stylii Choice
Hi, I'm just about finished rebuilding v2 of my system, however this time I'd like to do some cutting rather than embossing. Looking at the options available on myshank, I see they typically offer three options per stylus type: S, P and Synthetic. Can someone explain the difference to me? In partic...

Re: VR T560 head weight/dashpot adjustment issue
Assuming the spring of the damper holding correctly on both ends, is not compressed. Then adjust the back weight to make neutral position of the stylus at the same height of where the record is. Hold the cutter head with the scale while keeping it at that neutral height, *then turn the dial in on th...

Re: I want to know how to make a cutting head!
Hi there! I'm in my first steps of making a cutter head myself, I picked a pair of transducers from Sparkfun https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10975 https://cdn.sparkfun.com//assets/parts/6/0/3/2/10975-03.jpg It's going to take me several attempts to make anything right. So for first experimentation...

Re: Welcome, Newbies! Say Hi in this thread!
Hello everyone! My name is Marc and I'm in Ottawa Canada. Very thankful this forum is out there. Been reading the DIY lathe threads on here for a while now. I've been saving up for a few years, and I'm ready to invest in new gear for cutting vinyl. So in the meantime I get a chance to buy profession...
