Re: 5 in blank discs?

This may sound off the wall. The lids from butter tubs and similar packaging can work. I used them when I started experimenting. I don't remember if I cut or embossed but it came out with hardly anybsurfafe noise. And this was with lo fi equipment. Ask at a deli in a store. The stuff they put out co...

Re: Printer and Plotter for Sleeves

Water will wash away standard ink. You need a sublimation ink printer. A customer once brought in an Artisan 1430. He bought a modification kit to convert all the cartridges to black. They could be refilled and the chips could be reset. I'm sorry I forgot the name of the outfit. Some judicious googl...

Re: Best 78 cut for Victrola playback

Hello. Let me say first, I don’t know what might be considered industry standards today. The original process involved cutting into a beeswax slab (later melted onto a metal disc), plated, and pressed into a shellac compound. All of which might be difficult to access today. To use a lacquer would be...

This is up my street. Check out the Talking Machine Forum. There’s a new post about Colin Hancock making his own acoustic 78’s

Re: Inkjet printing on record blanks?

Do you have a printer that will advance the record under the printhead ? I would also be concerned about any kind of moisture washing away the image.

Re: edison cylinder recordings.

I know want to protect your business, but, as Shawn states, ediphone cylinders do NOT contain lead, columbia dictophone cylinders do. The majority of his time is taken by studying formulas, practices & making blanks. I don’t think he would just make something up because he felt like it. Anyway I hop...

Re: Recordette not working! PLEASE Help!

Hello. Sorry to hear you are having problems getting started. It is, though, part of the fun figuring out solutions. It’s kind of exiting when you finally get a decent cut. It’s hard to tell the exact problem without seeing it, but, to start there are a couple common problems. First, I don’t know wh...

Re: Need modern record for handcranked Gramophone/Victrola

This may be late for you, but I just joined and wanted to add a thought. Someone mentioned making a silicone and resin casting which sounds like a good idea for making a few. I wonder from someone who might know better if harder plastics can be used for pressing. For a living I work on copiers & pri...
