I had the exact same problem with a wobbly 1210. Exchanged it for a SP10 which is a night and day difference on many levels.
Much better definition and clarity due to a stable platter.

Re: VR - chip pickup tube with Caruso
I agree with Megamike. But this may be impossible due to your motordrive? You can also first try to put the brass counterweight more to the back of the spindle. It will give more leverage when it’s not at the front and your head will come more perpendicular. Place it as far back as possible. Alterna...

Re: What is everyone using to offset their preview signal in a DAW?
Hey Discomo! I think people here are discussing preview signals for automatic variable pitch controllers. That's not something you find on a stock Vinylrecorder/Presto/etc...so don't worry about it ;-) Lukas Hey Lukas, Ah! You’re completely right 👍😄 Thanks for pointing me at this. Please continue t...

Re: What is everyone using to offset their preview signal in a DAW?
I never preview anything, nor do I see the advantage of it. Before I commence cutting I check the delivered master thoroughly. Adjust volumes and eq where needed. The first cut is a testcut which I listen to from start to finish. After this I only check each record visually, just by eye. I haven’t m...

Re: tell me your experiences with the elliptical equaliser
I never use any elliptical eq or limiter.
Just go through your wav files visually, adjust volumes and eq manually and you'll get a much more natural result.
Basically the basis for good cutting lies in a good master, good ears and patience. Instead of shortcuts like elliptical eq's or limiters.

Re: vacuum suction noise
interesting! what level is this mid-oriented wind like noise coming in at dB wise? Totally missed this post Can’t say exactly (don’t have the software to measure it) But it’s gone now, since I use the variac. So your suggestion was truly excellent. Finally found a good use for this bulky variac 😄👍🙏

Re: vacuum suction noise
awesome, glad to hear it got sorted. in general I'd really suggest a variac. I've run all of my vacuums over the years at 90 volts the highest (out of 120 usually) Excellent suggestion. I have a variac here which I use only for powering up old tube gear. Will use it on my suction soon as a voltage ...

Re: Warped Pressings
I've wondered the same thing but I doubt they leave the pressing plant warped .... Unfortunately it has nothing to do (at least not always) with transport. I once picked up an order of 300 LP's at Record Industry Netherlands of which at least half of the order was warped severely. Maybe it's just t...

Re: frizzy curly swarf - more weight
I had a likewise problem but with a VR.
Could only solve it by increasing the weight of the head. Had torque issues as a result and needed to upgrade to a better table with more torque. But this solved the issues with swarf completely. Now at about 21 grams I think.

Re: question about amplifier
It's a misunderstanding that tube = color and transistor = no color. Some tube preamps (often the best) are crystal clear without any color, while some transistors (for instance Neve) give a lot of color. Every piece of equipment does bring however it's own character. So being aware of this may be u...

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
You guys are comparing direct cuts to pressed records? If you cut a t560 master and a Neumann master (I do every week) and compared you would hear what this level of head does. Plating/pressing are going to bring down the sound of any head. As for Caruso, just getting it hooked up so time will tell...

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
Just a question of interest; Is the Caruso much better than the original VR head? If yes, in what perspective? Ya - I’d love to know the answer to this also. I’ve got 3 VR’s, and I haven’t found any source material thus far (7 years) that a good VR cutter head can’t reproduce in both frequency resp...

" The VR cuts were as good, or better than the commercial cuts. I’ve not found any limitation in low frequencies, and in fact the high end on Souri’s blanks w/diamonds is easier to carry than cutting lacquer w sapphires. " well then i guess tehn it's the wrong question. if you cant hear the differe...
