Re: Ionizer / Ionizing air blower for cutting plastic
Have you tried just a humidifier to raise the humidity in your room? T let me echo this as well, to get good chip pickup (here in FL, USA) I have to have at least 40% humidity or chip drops immediately. Still not sure how it works precisely... When I raise the humidity too much the material also st...

Re: Ionizer / Ionizing air blower for cutting plastic
Bonjour 12bitcuts! Good question Have you tried just a humidifier to raise the humidity in your room? This may help as well. I recently had 33 degrees hmidity and severe static problems. Currently have my room back at 54% by just boiling some wAter in my electric watercooker :) This helps tremendous...

Re: Coloured Blank Discs - where to get?
I’ve been using the transparent blue and green from MyShank pretty consistently, I’ve made a run of the opaque white for a client too. I didn’t have any real concerns with the noise floor on them. I found them pretty comparable to he other myshank colours. The poly carb is a little stiffer than Sou...

Re: Coloured Blank Discs - where to get?
NB; The material used for blanks as sold by Souri and Myshank seem to be of a somewhat softer material than pressed vinyls. Which may mean all written in the texts in the link may not fully or at all apply to the blanks we're using, colored or black. Which also raises the question who's actually ma...

Re: Coloured Blank Discs - where to get?
I know that apparently the noise floor is a bit higher on coloured vinyl Is this true? How much noiser are they? I like to use 12" white blanks for my next release but i am afraid about the noise froor... I would like to give a try but they seem to be double the price of the black ones ! This artic...

Re: Test the condition of a VR head
Well, I found the problem. Swapped out the stylus and all is fixed. Leads me to this question. Freshly sharpened stylus causing distortion. How is this so. Looks fine but is the shortest one I’ve seen so far. Doesn’t seem to rattle about looks and is unused. Strange. Tried to reseat it a few times ...

Re: Record sticks to innersleeve
That's a good tip, thank you. I wasn't aware it was even possible to wipe it off before cutting without loosing it's anti-static capacities.
But I feel this is the best to do to avoid possible problems in the future.

Re: Record sticks to innersleeve
Previously I had alcohol in it, who knows it's better... I stopped using it since it's doing it's anti-static job well without it. But perhaps there's a reason for this alcohol. I'll be interested indeed in how much detergent others put into this anti static brew... And if others have had this same ...

Re: Vinyl sticks to innercover
I saw it at his home, don't have pictures here... I use just a soft biological detergent (1/5 detergent, rest water). Perhaps I use too much, although I don't think so. Simply just enough, not soaking wet. On the record it evaporates within 5 seconds. The records were cut a year ago, so it's not tha...

Record sticks to innersleeve
I was pointed by a customer how some of my records stick to the poly lining of the innersleeve. This was probably because of the anti-static spray residue which was left on the disc (I saw some dried up residue on the disc and it didn't look nice!) I always wipe it off quickly before putting it in t...

Re: Trying to create a book in the format as the old talk-to-me format
Don't know what the Rpm of the 'talk to me- format is, but I suggest make a new player which can play 45 Rpm speed records... That makes it easier for you to find someone who can make your records. Machine-wise; maybe it's just a simple matter of copying the internal elements What can it be, a psu, ...

Re: VR: Heat Affecting Dashpot?
Hi, Just for my own curiosity: Is the dashpot only used to allow for a smooth head drop? In that case is there no other mechanical damping to the head suspension when cutting? If that's the case, then the cut depth issues would have to be caused elsewhere. Mark The dashpot is not for a smooth headd...

Re: Unknown lathe
Have never seen this before, but it looks fantastic.
Is it tube/valve based?
Reminds me a bit of this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wAj22g8MWkw&feature=youtu.be
Did you inquire at french broadcast companies who were cutting discs in the 50’s / 60’s? I can imagine it -could- originally come from there

Re: VR: Heat Affecting Dashpot?
i'm gonig to try some SAE 50 oil, or maybe 40 That's a good point - maybe we can do a quick straw poll... What weight of oil is everyone using in their VR dashpot? Maybe a seperate poll opening for this? Interesting information. I myself have no clue. I still have the same stuff in it which souri p...

Re: VR: Heat Affecting Dashpot?
The plunger doesn't do that much. It doesn't affect the depth of cutting. Just look how it works... when you lower the head, the plunger moves down until the black winged screw touches the block. From there the spiral is taking over and that's the only section which affects the depth of your cut. Pl...

Re: VR: Heat Affecting Dashpot?
There is very slight movement of the block if you move it from front to back (because of the hole in the block) but not any movement from left to right. It's screwed tight to the overhead.
