@flozki thanks for clarifying, will look into rigging a more traditional lathe..
@farmersplow i'm using the IBS/E on a drill press with an x/y table, so a tolerance of 0.2mm would be considered an act of divine intervention : )

Re: Neumann cutterhead mount on Caruso
@leemichael yea it’s a mystery to me, but maybe others know why…
I used a piece of 16mm aluminum round bar for the circular part, but finding the center and drilling it was very difficult. So I’m going to try again and hopefully with more success.
Any tips for marking the exact center of a circle?

My first time milling out a channel like this with some modest proxxon power tools. Very enjoyable.

Re: Neumann cutterhead mount on Caruso
@dubcutter89 unfortunately the set screws don't go deep enough to hold it in place @leemichael its wonderfully made. I don't own a neumann so i don't know if its 10mm or 8mm, but my caruso was 8mm. ..i ended up machining a replica out of aluminium with an 8mm gap and it works fine. Ill upload pictur...

Neumann cutterhead mount on Caruso
I'm wondering how others have adapted their Neumann SX mount to fit the bracket on the back of the Caruso? For reference, i got my Neumann mount off ebay "rarevintageparts" and cutterhead direct from Flokason. What's really driving me the crazy, is i could have sworn i put them together as soon i go...

Caruso Pre Amp build
Hello All, I'm searching for someone who already has a Caruso and is interested in building and testing a pre-amp for me. I've contacted Flo already but didn't have much luck. I'd hoped to do it myself, and still might, but life just hasn't given the time/space/energy in the past couple years. So if...

Re: Where to get (Oil) Dashpot?
I used old speaker transducer parts and drilled holes to allow more flow. Essentially just trying to make a Neumann clone.

What beautiful machining!
It's very inspiring work, and test cuts sound really good.
thank you for sharing.

Re: Scam/Estafa/Trapaça: Angulo, Tangential, Mejía, Vortex Vinyl Disc Recorder C-4, C-6
Has anyone ever gotten one of these machines whole, AND gotten it to cut a disc of high fidelity music. According to this thread, No. But these pictures do make me ask some questions.. Where’s the cutter head? Do all of those random needles work with the same head? (Are those diamonds in a zip lock ...

Re: VR Dashpot oil
Silicon oil is fairly resistant to temperature fluctuations, and can be found in many weights for RC auto shocks and differentials.

Re: There are no dumb questions
Hi Gabriel, how much weight are you applying to the cutter head? I also had this problem but resolved it somewhat when I backed off to 30-40 grams.

Re: A Very Basic Record Lathe
The grooves in the microscopic picture look terrible. Not sure whether you are trying to emboss or actually cut, but what is happening is that you are just scratching the surface. Unmodulated grooves must look mirror-like and smooth, without any of the small "fuzzy" structures seen in the image. Lo...

Re: A Very Basic Record Lathe
Awesome build, ...247. How wide is the groove, across the top, when it looks 'too deep'? (Does it look much wider than most groove-turns on known-playable 'embossed' cuts when viewed on your platter when using the same mic / objective?) Is there any swarf-suction nozzle? (swarf strings visible on w...
