Hi, Just for my own curiosity: Is the dashpot only used to allow for a smooth head drop? In that case is there no other mechanical damping to the head suspension when cutting? If that's the case, then the cut depth issues would have to be caused elsewhere. Mark the dashpot also active in cutting th...

some movment in the block is good, if its tight the rod that goes through it will catch and cause depth issues it was one of the things I went through checking when i had outter groove issues

my electronics isnt the best but thats a transistor, with part number taken off like Souri does makes it harder to find replacements but I would have thought a transistor if gone faulty it would either work or not work (gone short or open circuit) if the speeds fast then slows have you tried switch ...

Mine doesn't seem to have any give, feels tight front to back. wonder if its something worked loose inside where the feedscrew is as the bolts are tight from the bottom, anyone else with a vr can check is it tight or can it rock a little when you move it?

Hi PMST, ah thanks for the info, have redone the calibration like you said I have always done it by having it to the right of the platter and lift the head and adjust it, had the machine for two years as well hah, you learn something new everyday! :) btw in the video the head was away from the blank...

Hi All,
ok so adjusted the dashpot so it does not have a big gap when head up but dailing it to get to 15/20grams it stretch again back weight is 45gram have uploaded a video for ref any ideas?

I got one of these but there seems to be a knack to using it, you will start off trying to take off to much and it will bite right in and make jagged edges, seems little pressure and the right angle just to take enough off

Hi there, that could be the main issue then, have you tried blocking up the tube on the other lathe and see if it still backs up? I would say either run two sep vac pumps or a bigger one by splitting it the vac has got to be down by 50% id say and if any leaks, blocks or longer tubing than on the ot...
