Wow!!!!!!!!! Phonocut

Man, checking in on this community has been super cool. The PHONOCUT lathe seems extremely promising, (if only I had 1899 euros lying around!!!!!). The prototype sounds amazing, and i'm happy to see that people have been active on this community and making new stuff. Keep it up!!! :)

Selling my Recordio/farewell

Hi. After a couple of years I've finally decided to sell my Recordio. I started a kickstarter for a record cutting business that ultimately did not succeed but gave more than enough to buy a Recordio record lathe and help advance me in other hobbies. In case you're wondering, everyone that funded my...

Re: First Cut + Swarf Issue

Was there a bunch of grinding and noise coming off of the disc while you cut No it sounded quite normal. I dont know what hes selling these days, but if its the old school steel cutting needles he was selling me a decade ago when i started, they dont cut plastic well at all. He told me they did, to...

First Cut + Swarf Issue

Hi. Long time no see! I really stoked because I just made my first cut on my Recordio. I had to stop because tons of swarf was gathering on the record and I was worried about damaging my new needle. I don't have a chance to listen to it (I don't trust my good needle with my sketchy record). Which un...

Re: Anyone know any <200 turntables with lots of torque?

Thank you for your suggestion :), but isn't that brand (the new Victrola brand, not the old one) kind of notorious in the turntable world?

Re: From embossing to cutting: but... problems!

This looks like a nice project you've got going on here. One thing, I would not recommend a DIY turntable for cutting as you can get a Numark TTX turntable for $150. I don't own one but it seems like a nice turntable and has more torque than Technics SL1200 (!).

Re: Styli damage

I'm no expert, but I doubt it. The only reason I think this would happen is if the styli meets its melting point, but this seems very unlikely. If you overheat it, it could possibly damage the drivers due to the current flowing through the needle.

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build

After I actually looked over the 3D model another time, I have new questions (sorry!). What is this spring are you talking about? Is it just another name for the torque tubes? If so, I don't see any in the model/do I need to design them myself?

Anyone know any <200 turntables with lots of torque?

Hey. I'm researching DIY lathe stuff and right now i'm wondering if anyone can find a cheap turntable suitable for cutting. Thanks in advance.

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build

Really? What are all of the things sticking into the cutter head? Are those the "Spirol inserts" KNOP talks about?
