Re: Styli
I think you answered the question yourself, warped blanks are one of the biggest diamond killers. During cutting warped discs micro damage can happen to the diamond and likely just the lock groove on the end of the 12” finished it off. If a blank is warped just put it aside and use a different one. ...

Re: Weird bass sounds/skipping on T560
I do not heat discs, if you check any plastic manufacturers specs for PETG, or even PC or PVC, unless you heat to 85 degrees it has no structural benefit apart. Maybe back in the day Souri used a different plastic, but the ones currently on the market for the last 10 years do not need heating and it...

Re: VR T560: amp quality / upgrades
If you do the iRIAA coding digitally, you must map your head. These units not follow the standard RIAA curve, each head is different, i have mapped maybe 30 heads so far for people and all have variations in frequency response. I use Ecler ePLA350 for my amps and happy with them but i know the Avant...

Re: Left and Right channel sounds different
As Ben mentioned, every head is different, I have three and all have a different frequency response, also inaccuracies in their dimensions affecting the sound. Souri implements his 'iRIAA' as a 3 band EQ in the main unit, usually a bass boost, slight mid dip and boost in the high end. I have mapped ...

Re: Left and Right channel sounds different
Hey @PMST i didnt see your post, thank you for the tips. Sorry it was my mistake, you're totally right! Soon i will try to go directly from the daw to amp bypassing all units, one question, how do you measure the cutting volume inside the daw and how do you monitor the computer/phono signals at the...

Re: Left and Right channel sounds different
Amp always goes direct to cutter head? It is the chain before the amp you wasn't to change. The cutter head has Speakon connectors that go to the amp,. The DIN plugs that you are talking about is for the motor and stylus heating, not audio. It is advisable to change out Souri's cheap electrics. Keep...

Re: T-560 Vinyl Recorder In the UK on reverb
No info on the cutterhead condition either, even a simple ohm reading. So along with the price and Reverb being riddled with scams, it's worth avoiding i'd say!

My friend got accepted for a VR today, so he is still making them, so as long as you made a well worded email which was less than a sentence in length, you might be ok!

Re: Distortion even at low levels.......
Thanks for all the feedback. The issue is now sorted. Strangely it was multiple diamonds causing this, i thought the odds of so many freshly 'resharpened' diamonds would never be the cause, low and behold, a set of new diamonds are used and order is restored.

Re: TKV Cutting head not working
Again, check the impedance of the coils as then you can likely tell if it is a coil burnt out, or just a faulty cable coming from the head. One is an easy cheap fix, one isn't, so do this when you can.

Re: Distortion even at low levels.......
Yeah i've swapped the players out and tried different sources, still the same.
I'm thinking it is just a send to Souri job, i cut a lot of discs, and have to cut loud so assuming at this point it is just wear and tear.

Distortion even at low levels.......
I have two VR heads, each head has been cutting around 200 to 300 discs each, per month for about 3 years. In the past days, both heads are getting some nasty distortion, sibilance in particular, but even well below 0dbu at 45rpm which i have never encountered before. I've tested the heads, both rea...
