good question.
it's a mono RCA head, with a self-made heater circuit faceplate. it's an efficient, safe method for getting heat to the stylus. Similar to a Capps heater faceplate. but without the springs. You wrap the heater wire around the two copper leads protruding from the barrier strip

Dietrich is right. Everyone puffing smoke and stamping feet about steep prices: If you don't want it, don't buy it and don't raise hell about it. what about this type of behavior? It's nothing we haven't seen before. People wanting millions for this stuff. but it sits forever. http://1.bp.blogspot.c...

too steep for you...
I would say due to rarity and age this is a half-justified price. I have never seen a neumann transcription unit like this. very amazing

That lathe was so ridiculously incomplete, and it went for 5,000. You can't compare incomplete prices to fully workingAussie0zborn wrote:

hey nice work with these heads as of late. The re-magnetizing thing is big help for lots of people
i read through the post but saw no description of the program you used to scan those magnetic frequencies. Is it just a simulator or are you scanning the head with a device?

very interesting work. I am a bit envious. I work on RF engineering projects for cellular radio networks. I go about my work daily wishing i was part of the golden age of radio communication; Western Electric antennas, Presto 6N cuts in the mail, no safety harness... I feel the radio tower work and ...

Re: Lathe Trolling
Yes, this is as I suspected. I have no expectation for this process to be easy. Merely looking for a degree of future-proofing. I suppose when the time comes, I should just get one of Souri's machines. Is the K-8 worth getting, then? What kind of frequency response is it possible to achieve with a ...

Re: Lathe Trolling
How difficult would it be to fit a mono lathe (such as a presto K8) with a stereo cutterhead? It seems like it would be incredibly complex, but I don't know much at all about how these machines function. You're talking about fitting a $5000 head on a $1000 unit. If you want to transport your ferrar...

Re: Lathe Trolling
Actually every single question on here has been asked and answered twenty times over on this forum... Even considering stereo cutting off the jump is overshooting the mark big time. Most who can cut stereo are $20K/10+ years invested. It's 4X as difficult as cutting mono. Big things have small begin...

Re: Amp question for Presto cutterhead 1B
you may not want to send it in to be rewound. Look at the amp above. See where it says "25V"? you may want to find an amp with the 25V/70V taps, those WILL drive 500 ohm cutterheads. Trust me on this one, I searched and searched and searched, as I have several 500OHM heads; and finally discovered th...
