Re: Record Cutting Party!
That's super cool! Did you flip the motor upside down instead of poking out of a whole in the plinth? Yeah, it's a new build stepper motor Markrob put together for me, mounted to the plinth so we could tinker with it a lot to dial it in. Very low noise, a little hum behind the tracks, but you'd nev...

That's a cool find Stephen M, great to see it still exists. I wonder if the NFSA have any recordings from that machine.

Re: Feedscrew Knife Jumping
Hey Woot92! I had a similar issue once where the feed screw would slip off the pin which the pin would then slide around the feed screw and pop back into place. During this time the knife would lift slightly. Could it be that your disc is slipping slightly between the flange and the platter and for ...

Re: What'cha working on?
Very cool displacedsnail! Are you copying the audio from a professionally made vhs or a home dub? The last two pieces I had worked on was a double-sided square 7", two 2 minute garagey rock songs for a local two-piece. The second is a compilation of songs recorded especially for the 40th birthday of...

Re: Cutting the 2nd hole
hey George! not sure if the Rek O Cut is the same but I overcame this problem on my 6N platter by taping down the second "drive pin", and building up the overall height of the turntable with two slip mats to even out the height difference. hope that helps! I did the same thing with my 6N, does the ...

Re: Looking for Lathe Cut
Hi recvival,
If you're in the USA piaptk would be your guy, he might be able to hook you up with a 6N and I think he stocks Jed's motor from Poland which works really well with the 6N. I have one of Jed's motors and it has improved the sound.

Re: Zenith Records Milestone
Congratulations Chris,
I've always had great service from Zenith, though I've only done a couple of records. I've always enjoyed watching what comes out of the factory.

Blowers (Australia) European Tour ‘23
Hey Trolls my garage punk band Blowers are heading over for a sweet time. Not sure if any of you are based around these parts but if anyone’s about it’d be fun to talk to another human about lathing.

Re: Question for Presto 6N operators regarding overhead set-up
I had a similar issue the other week where my grooves were slowly fading away into the centre. With my 6n if I manage to get something to play all the way through I don’t try to touch too much I feel like soon as a change too much it will take me days to get back to that point. It’s hard to explain ...

Re: cheap embossing material
Sheets of polycarbonate are relatively cheap, I just score both sides and snap them into squares.
Though I bought some thinker carb and had it cut into squares but I’m really struggling to emboss with out it getting stuck in a loop.

Re: New member Presto 6n resto-mod project
Sorry to bump this old thread up. Is there a particular name for the screw with the hole at the bottom that the tension spring attaches to? I’ve been googling several terms and asked at a hardware store but the guy couldn’t help me. Also what thread size is it? I’ve tried a bunch but it’s either nar...

Re: Presto 6N Motor / Speed Controller update options
Has anyone recently done a belt drive conversion? Surly 10 years later it had happened, anyone have any advice?
I’m in Australia running 50hz and also have a lot of motor noise, I thought this might be a better option.

Re: Some Help Is Needed With Audacity
Surprised no one has jumped on this. I don’t use Audacity all that much my lathe runs slower so I use Reaper to change the speed rate of the audio so once cut it plays back at the required speed. I’d suggest giving it a try.

Presto 6n overhead / feedscrew problem
I bought this 6n last year but have been really intimidated by it but I've finally got around to trying to get it up and running. Today was my first day I've managed to put audio to disk but I'm having issues with the finger holding the feedscrew it keeps slipping out then causing the cutterhead car...
