Re: Zenith Records Milestone

Congratulations Chris,
I've always had great service from Zenith, though I've only done a couple of records. I've always enjoyed watching what comes out of the factory.

What kind of limiter do you use to catch your peaks?
I use the limiter in audacity after i’ve applied the inverse riaa curve.
What sort of limiter settings are you applying to the tracks?

Blowers (Australia) European Tour ‘23

Hey Trolls my garage punk band Blowers are heading over for a sweet time. Not sure if any of you are based around these parts but if anyone’s about it’d be fun to talk to another human about lathing.

Re: Question for Presto 6N operators regarding overhead set-up

I had a similar issue the other week where my grooves were slowly fading away into the centre. With my 6n if I manage to get something to play all the way through I don’t try to touch too much I feel like soon as a change too much it will take me days to get back to that point. It’s hard to explain ...

Re: cheap embossing material

Sheets of polycarbonate are relatively cheap, I just score both sides and snap them into squares.
Though I bought some thinker carb and had it cut into squares but I’m really struggling to emboss with out it getting stuck in a loop.

Re: New member Presto 6n resto-mod project

Sorry to bump this old thread up. Is there a particular name for the screw with the hole at the bottom that the tension spring attaches to? I’ve been googling several terms and asked at a hardware store but the guy couldn’t help me. Also what thread size is it? I’ve tried a bunch but it’s either nar...

Re: Presto 6N Motor / Speed Controller update options

Has anyone recently done a belt drive conversion? Surly 10 years later it had happened, anyone have any advice?

I’m in Australia running 50hz and also have a lot of motor noise, I thought this might be a better option.

Re: Some Help Is Needed With Audacity

Surprised no one has jumped on this. I don’t use Audacity all that much my lathe runs slower so I use Reaper to change the speed rate of the audio so once cut it plays back at the required speed. I’d suggest giving it a try.

Presto 6n overhead / feedscrew problem

I bought this 6n last year but have been really intimidated by it but I've finally got around to trying to get it up and running. Today was my first day I've managed to put audio to disk but I'm having issues with the finger holding the feedscrew it keeps slipping out then causing the cutterhead car...

WTB - Presto - Australia

I’ve lurked this place on and off for over a decade but have never got to the point of purchasing a lathe besides the gakken toy record maker. I’m now at the point realising that I should have bought one when I was first hooked on the idea. I’m looking for a functioning machine here in Australia, po...

How’re you all going with your gakken? I’ve made few mistakes out of excitement, pretty fun stuff. How loud are people cutting out, should I be cranking it?

Re: Welcome, Newbies! Say Hi in this thread!

I knew I’d end up here, I used to snooping around for maybe over a decade ago but didn’t have the money to ever be in a position to buy a lathe. But recently I was explaining how cool lathes were and how they work ect and realised I should really think about getting one. Strangely I decided to look ...
