Re: A Very Basic Record Lathe

Thanks for the close up on the suspension box ! You make me want to try this kind of "real neumann lathe" type of carriage and suspension. I asked because I chip diamonds too fast, and I'm wondering what people use in their suspension mecanisms. Lately I was putting the blame on my head drop/lift me...

Re: A Very Basic Record Lathe

Really nice work !
May I ask how your lever to drop or lift the cutterhead works ?

Re: Stereo Professional Cutting Head and System

Nice, thanks for this experiment and for providing infos and measurements ! What's the weight on those torque tubes and the rest of the moving elements ? What kind of suspension for the moving coils did you chose ? And lastly, how did you manage the electromagnetic properties of most elements (mainl...

Re: Long term struggle with suction noise, what am I doing wrong?

Could you post an audio sample of that noise on the record ? Did you test with no suction tube connected but pump on ? (to see if it's decoupled properly) I see that you have a vacuum platter, did you try without the vacuum platter applying suction ? Did you try with different nozzle sizes and diffe...

Figuring out the Neumann Lift and Drop mechanism

Hey everyone, I've been trying to figure out how the neumann suspension boxes work. This thread explained the main concepts nicely : https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4828&p=29370&hilit=depth+solenoid#p29370 But to go a little further, I was curious about the cutterhead dropping lever ...

Re: help with this V-spring desing

There are many elements in a cutterhead, and the least you have, the easier you can test every component separately. A v-spring like that is hard to do because there are many parameters at play : its shape, the material, the material thickness, how it's connected, does it need to be dampened... Also...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

As usual incredible stuff ! I'm wondering, you don't have a vacuum platter, do you ? I'm asking because my lathe is lacking a lot of the features you have (automatic groove distance, automatic heating, lights...) but the only thing I feel like I really miss that would make a big difference is a vacu...

This is just brutal. I'm shocked by this result. Why is this? I thought it was just me. So it's not the lathe.
what do you mean ? Could you elaborate please ?

Re: Who can help me with my VR T560 cutterhead?

A guy named ruben rubio was posting on fb groups that he made replacement drivers for the t560 cutterhead. I have no idea if it's true or what quality to expect. He got banned from the t560 users group because he spammed them a lot. So he was kind of problematic but his advices helped me solve an is...

Re: Irregular Groove Spacing on DIY Lathe – Need Help Diagnosing the Cause

I'm having a similar issue, but only on one side of the record. I don't have a vacuum platter, so I usually get records that are far from flat, and it seems to me like those issues only appear on the "bent" side of the record. I'm using a stanton st-150 turntable, my theory is that it has a bearing ...

Re: Confused: Cutting angle

When cutting into plastic your needle should be "digging" into the plastic because plastic has a spring back effect (it will want to go back to its original shape after cut, in the opposite direction of the cut) To counter that you need to cut with a "digging" tilt, so once the spring back effect ta...

Re: UK/EU service offered - rewinds, diamonds, parts fabrication

As of today, I’ve started to reproducing the Presto microscope arm, which is a rare beast if you don’t have one. The first batch should be ready in the next four weeks. Depending on what you want, I can modify to have a modern microscope fitted like the ones from China that you see with the screen,...

Nice ! Do you plan on selling the cutting heads alone ?

By the way, seeing that cutting head so close to the edge of the table gave me chills haha

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe

Nice, cheers for the detailled reply ! It's knop's and the lockdown lathe that motivated me to do this aswell. But I had a hard time sourcing many parts needed for the lockdown lathe, and I wanted an automatic head drop feature so I ended up designing my own lathe. I should have used fusion 360 aswe...

Again, really nice build ! What's your experience and inspiration for the 3D printing designs ? You seem to have chosen nice manufacturing technics that fit 3d printing nicely. I ended up buying way too many parts that I could have printed myself, or going with connection methods (with classic blots...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening

Cheers for this thread, really interesting read ! I was thinking what would be the most appropriate regular machining gear that could be adapted for this use ? Surely the cheap diamond polishing machines available on aliexpress are far from suitable for this work ? Would adapting a lathe spindle hor...
