Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Thank you all for the replies; I wish I could 'like' these posts. :) To answer your question, I have all volumes at the half-way point for the time being. I figured I would fine-adjust afterward. Ok, so then once I have a good clean (quiet) groove, *then* I do the mapping. My mistake was I thought o...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Thank you for the replies. I believe I have a clean groove with no audio... But when I then introduce music - it skips all over the place. I can't get a stable groove (with music) even bringing the weight up to 80g! This is with a Ruby stylus even. Just out of curiosity, what do some of you use as a...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Unfortunately, I do not.
But let me try what you mentioned, take sound directly from the source without modification and try to set the cutting stylus angle to get the cutting surface flat against the record and see how it tracks.
Thank you for all of your help.

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Thank you - I'm going to take my issues one at a time. I looked at the guide, and it seems to be based on sound quality. I will do that once I get this issue resolved: One of the main issues I have is that the tracking. The groove isn't deep enough to hold the needle in place, and the tone arm goes ...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Hello again all. So I disconnected everything, and am trying one last time to connect everything up again. Just to double-check the order here, it goes: Music Source -> EQ -> Amp -> Lathe Is that correct? I have the EQ set low to high, bottom to top, and another EQ set the same at the music source. ...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Thank you all for your replies... But it's not just about the highs, I'm having issues all-around. No matter what I do I get either distortion, a groove that the tone-arm can't track (and skips all over the place), or too much surface noise, etc. Keep in mind that I've *never* had a cut/emboss that ...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Hello all: I appreciate the help, I honestly do, but I think it's time to throw in the towel. I tried a bit more to figure it out, but if it's *that* difficult to get working, it kind of takes the fun out of it. I'll be posting the equipment for sale soon. I need to take better pictures and make a l...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Thanks, guys... It's just that I've tried everything I can think of; different media, different angles of the cutting head, different weights of the cutting head, different styluses (including ruby and diamond), different amps, it all just seems to bring different issues and not really resolve anyth...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Ok, I've had it. I truly give up. I have tracking issues where the sound is... ok... or it tracks ok but is distorted. I've tried different EQs, different styluses, and different mediums. I'm done. I can't get it to work correctly. I've been at it for YEARS now. No mater what I do, I can't get this ...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Hi guys - So I picked up a used QSC GX3, and it's on it's way to me. Now it's just adding an equalizer plug in on my Linux box, and boosting the highs some more. I guess I should start with the amp about half way volume and see how that sounds. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you all again, Bob

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Good Morning, and thank you both VERY much for the advice... You guys are awesome!
Let me see what I can find regarding EQs/Amps/Power Supplies and I'll report back.
EDIT: To answer the above question, I was not adding any EQ on the laptop...
Thank you again,
Bob

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
For starters: My source is a laptop running Linux Mint (Volume set at 60%), first going through a SONY SEQ-210 Amp (with the bass cut and treble boost going from low to high) Going through this Amplifier: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7C7GD9R (Volume on this is set to the half-way point) Getting powe...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
I'm about ready to give up. No matter what I do, what kind of stylus I get (I have steel, ruby, and diamond now), what angle the cutting head is at, what position the stylus is at, how loud/soft I have the amp, how light/heavy I have the cutting head... I can't get a decent sounding recording. I hav...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
My weight settings are approx. 30 grams I still need to try boosting the highs farther like the post above suggests... I need to take a file and boost the highs on a computer first before going through the normal route through the EQ and then AMP. I just can't seem to get decent sound. I'm volleying...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Thank you for the reply!
The amp I am using is 100Wx2, and it takes 24 Volts in.
I will try boosting the highs some more first, thank you for the advice.

Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
Hello all! I think I'm finally getting somewhere with my Polycarbonate/Ruby Stylus combination, but I still have one issue. I got past the tracking issue (where the needle would not stay in the groove), and the surface noise issue (now using a heat lamp). However, I still can't get the highs to come...

Re: Cutting stylus suppliers? Diamond usable with Master Lacquer?
Thank you again - my account has been reinstated at MyShank as well! Choices!
Thanks guys - I may have questions once I am able to get going on this again, but I'll of course search first, and if I can't find it I'll start a new thread.

Re: Cutting stylus suppliers? Diamond usable with Master Lacquer?
Excellent, thank you!!!
Just as a side note, I'm in the U.S. (Florida to be exact). Does that make a difference?
EDIT: I see you sell to the U.S., very cool.
