Re: Cutting and artistic rights

Yeah I got a cease and desist from a lawyer representing a US band. A client of mine ordered single copies for personal use of a few live recordings, which seemed unintended for official release by the band. I made the records, the client shared on instagram and boom I had a very serious cease and d...

Re: 12" LaserDisc (LD) Movies for cutting

I've been cutting laserdiscs with diamond for years now. the stock varies WIDELY of course like Mike said, they have to be super flat.
I cut a 45 RPM spider adapter with scissors and hold it in there with two 4" labels

Re: vacuum suction noise

awesome, glad it got sorted!
I use the same ebay player piano vac now with my own variac. it's really quiet and runs great, except when it's 78F+ in the studio and I have to do sides longer than 5min.
in that case I take the little rubber plug off the 2nd pipe and it stays cool enough not to overheat

Re: juke box large hole lathe cuts

Back in the 50's Webcor made 45 hole adapters made of steel. I have found these to be the most stubborn, durable, and indestructible 45 centers ever made. I have bags full of them - having bought and hoarded tens of thousands of 45's over the years, I've accumulated a lot of various centers. I do n...

A mate of mine had a 3D printer and made a "shim" for me of plastic. Works well.

Re: vacuum suction noise

awesome, glad to hear it got sorted. in general I'd really suggest a variac. I've run all of my vacuums over the years at 90 volts the highest (out of 120 usually) Excellent suggestion. I have a variac here which I use only for powering up old tube gear. Will use it on my suction soon as a voltage ...

juke box large hole lathe cuts

I've been making a lot of jukebox cuts lately and wanted to see if anyone had an elegant solution for large hole blanks? the trusty yellow plastic spider inserts have popped out and ruined the cut more than a few times. I have a metal Presto branded 45 insert but it's too tall to be used with the cl...

Re: vacuum suction noise

yeah I've had this issue before, do you use a variac?
that's what I use to keep the suction only as high as I need it without getting audible in the cut or potentially crushing the tubing

Re: What materials have you cut with an Astatic X26?

hey there, more helpful than the type of head your using is: A - the stylus you have already B - the lathe you have the lathe determines whether you can CUT (sapphire/ruby on lacquer, or diamond on plastic) or EMBOSS (sapphire/ruby on plastic) based on the angles your lathe can achieve none of the s...
