Re: Lathe/Table ID Help Historians! :)

It needs some cleaning, but this appears to be really well made. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/2013-07-23192858_zps43e776f9.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/2013-07-23192635_zpsd7246a4e.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/2013-07-23192608_zps2fdf0...

Re: Lathe/Table ID Help Historians! :)

Well. I'm leaning toward Astatic. For one, it appears to have an Astatic tone arm. Secondly, Astatic was originally Astatic Microphone Laboratory...in the prewar period...and the decal has the little electric bolts on it like the Astatic logo. So, my guess is that since they made cutting heads and c...

Re: Lathe/Table ID Help Historians! :)

Wow?! No guesses? Hmm. Well hopefully it will be ok for playing records. Perhaps I will put two tone arms on it. One for mono and one stereo.
Eh...something to play around with I guess.

Lathe/Table ID Help Historians! :)

OK, so I made an impulse buy, but don't know for sure what I have. It seems similar in some ways to a Presto 16x, but different enough not to be. Any ideas? My guess is that it is 30's era. I would likely use it for playback, but it would be cool to mount an overhead on it. http://i45.photobucket.co...

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

What are all of you using for monitors? How about monitor headphones? I pulled these old tweed monitors out of the attic, but have not yet decided how to best use them. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/2013-06-29200719_zpsa1c91b28.jpg How does everyone here drive their monitor system?...

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

So I keep on tinkering and tinkering. I want to get a proper switch for this table. I have a On-Off-On switch I bought, but not only is it not able to be adjusted to allow the proper amount of travel, it occured to me that it should be a momentary switch...otherwise it wouldn't automatically snap ba...

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

Any chance you could take some pics with a ruler against the bracket parts from various angles? I would like to find out the height of the risers the are on the motor bracket itself...and perhaps the table bracket as well. And I guess how far the curve extends from the flat parts on the ends. I actu...

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

Would one of you trolls out there with a 6N mind lifting your platter and taking detailed pictures of the motor mounting? I am missing the motor mount bracket and will need to fashion one. Measurements would also be very helpful! :)
Thanks for your continued help!

Re: Building a console for a Presto 6N

I heard from a son of an old studio guy, that they would set a lathe console into a container of sand for isolation. I don't know how well that worked.

Re: Building a console for a Presto 6N

I plan on building a console just like that. My suggestion might be to see if you can find an enclosure and cut it down. Then use fill in panels.

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

So here's a little update, I got some more Presto reel equipment in a second tower. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/1368442278_zps70390599.jpg And in the not counting your chickens before they're hatched category...I may have my turntable situation solved. More to come on that later....

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

So I picked up an Audak/Audax AT-12 tone arm. Any thoughts on these? What do all you folks use for tone arms?
