Yup. That's the one. Any info available as to when they were made or how good they are?

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

Here are some pics. Now Does anyone know anything about an Olsen head? And why would you go through so much trouble getting it to fit? It is on there with some precision. This one is marked 500 ohms...in the middle No.5 is on the right and SER.C is on the left. Ideas? http://i45.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

Is there such a thing as an Olsen head? I think I remember someone saying something about an Olsen. I'll have to pull it off to see if there is any kind of name. Makes you wonder why someone would go through the trouble when a presto head would fit right on.

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

Oh and while I'm asking, anyone know what kind of cutterhead is on this overhead assembly?

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

So I may have the table problem resolved?! Crossing fingers still. But now I have a question about tonearms. What I seem to notice as typical on a 6N is the Audax brand. Now there is surely a pecking order of quality. Can anyone make some suggestions on a model to look for?
Thanks

Re: My Presto 6N has the wrong capacitor.

Does the motor run if you physically give it a push? If so, I would think the problem is the start cap. The 2.5uf may have worked when new, but perhaps its no longer up to the challenge.

Re: My Presto 6N has the wrong capacitor.

To be safe, I would think the voltage max should be at leas 20% more that you ever expect the cap to see. If the current cap works, I'd use that as a starting point and increase the max voltage. Higher voltage will just cost a bit more, that's all.

If God's willing...I will have an honest go at this guy. And I will be contacting you about the extra motor.

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

Haven't yet heard back from Jay with particulars, but I think I will try and get a proper Presto table. I kinda don't want to frankenlathe it...although, I know that it is a viable option.

Re: Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

I think there is enough to have up to two working overhead assemblies. One has what I think is an Olsen cutterhead. Either way that turntable might do in a pinch...certainly until. Proper 6N comes along. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Presto Transcription TT on eBay

I tried...put in a bid of 109...that with the 58 dollar shipping is all I could afford at this particular moment especially since it wasn't an actual 6N...the hunt wiil continue, but quite honestly probably be given up on. Too hard to become an honest lathe troll...or at least way too expensive. Tim...

Wouldn mind trying to get that guy...but god knows it will go crazy at the end and I will continue to collect 6N overheads with no turntable in sight!

I am pretty sure that they all need to be ratcheted...this enables you to crank the screw without movement of the turntable. If you can spin the pinion in only one direction then its ratcheted. You can do it by hand if you don't have a feed screw in.

Presto 6N Ratchet Gear Assembly?

Ok so I think this could be a new topic. On one ov my overhead assemblies, the center part spins freely on both directions. I believe the axle part is actually supposed to be pressed into a brass ring that in turn has ratcheting relief around the rim. Now I noticed that the ratcheting ring has a lin...

I picked up this Presto SA-9 Transfer switch...I think this can be used for both the reel amps/mixers and those used for the lathes:

Ok so I was looking more at the manuals for the Presto amps/mixers that go with the reel machines...and they appear to have a 500ohm output. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/1350690671.jpg Some of the booklets say 500ohm some say 500/600ohm so perhaps some of these machines were made ...
