Sweet! Even more great info. Got up early this morning and replaced all of the paper caps. I have to order the electrolytic caps. This amp should be close to new in short order. I may have to build a little console to mount the VU meter and amp to keep it all neat.

Already got the amp flipped on end to see what caps I need. The power tubes are 6L6's but can I not just replace them with 6L6GC's? Either way, the amp seems simple enough to get tuned up and working well. For the purposes of pluging in the cutter head, I was thinking to make an adapter with the 5-p...

Once again Mr. Mark is dead on. The amp I have is a Masco MA-50 listed for commercial use...whatever that means and it does have a 500 ohm tap! http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/1350081830.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/1350081811.jpg I'm not entirely sure how it w...

I got home and looked at the head, and sure enough, it is stamped 500ohm. So while this is only slightly on topic, I thought I'd share that I picked up the original manuals for my reel machines: http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gretsch57/1350076397.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/gret...

I have to look at the amp more closely for sure then. It might be fun to alter it for use anyway since I won't likely find a Presto amp to match the turntable I don't have yet. :) One I look at the amp, I'm sure I will be able to tell more. Even if I rewind the head, I could use this PA I suppose. I...

Thanks! This is exactly the type of info I need. Is there any benefit at all to keeping my 1-C at 500ohms if it is not shorted? I suppose a rebuild could be a good idea to keep things simple. The PA I am referencing is on the top of the reel stack...it would be cool to overhaul it too. I think I nee...

Thanks for the input. A thought had crossed my mind. My 1-C has a DC resistance of like 72 or so ohms...I realize that this is different from impedance, but can one estimate the impedance based on that of similar measurements taken from other heads, Also, if I have a decent PA head with an EQ, could...

It certainly would be best to have at least one sample, but I hesitate to ask someone to lend a screw for the effort. Simply because they would need to be trustful enough to do it and I could understand how someone would be weary of it.

Well I have the drawing on its way to the machine shop...a buddy of mine is going to swing by there in a bit. Then I will have a better idea of the price range. To start, I wouldn't mind having some of the standard values like the 112. A 128 would be good too.

So between this thread...the link provided and friendly forum member Mark R...I am getting close to knowing the info I think I need. Now what is it I need to ask the machinist? Do I. Need to provide a specific thread pitch, and if so, do we have a thread pitch to LPI table?

So I was looking at the Presto 6N manual and it said that feedscrews were available in 96, 112, and 120 LPI... this seems to be dreadfully short...no? At 78 RPM how much time would you have on one side of a record...say 10"

Aha! Some interest! Ok thanks for the input. I understand from Mark that the more lines, the shallower the threads need to be. The LPI is associated with the record itself right...not the screw itself...So wouldn't I need to know the thread pitch for each LPI?

Feed Screw Project (Presto 6N, 8N)

Ok so I have been thinking more and more about feed screw needs. These things seem to be frequently missing. I do have a good machine shop that I can work done at. Mark from the forum was gracious enough to send me a technical drawing of a feed screw that will be helpful. Now, I don't know what it w...

Presto 6N guidance suggestions? (piecing together)

Howdy. Tim here down in FLA trying to rig a decent Presto setup. Currently I am working to find a turntable and I need some feed screws. At this time I have almost two overhead assemblies. I plan to head to a machine shop friend to see iif I can have the missing parts from one duplicated from anothe...

Anyone have a spare Presto 6N Tuntable only to sell?

Still on the hunt here. Trying to get a table for my mostly complete overhead assemblies. I am totally fine with a project table. I need to get a feed screw too, but the table is my main focus now. If ya got anything...you can shoot me an e-mail at midnightbowlersleague [at] yahoo [dot] com Thanks f...

WTB : Presto 6N Turntable and head bracket

Howdy Tim here. Been a while since I last visited the forum. Anyhow I was looking for a presto turntable unit. I don't need the overhead assembly. But, I could use the bracket that holds the cutting head. If you have something I might be able to use, please send pics and a price to midnightbowlersle...

Howdy! New here!

Howdy All! My name is Tim. I am into quite a few vintage things. I spend a bunch of time working on guitar amps and hot rods. I have a rockabilly band in Tampa FLA. At any rate, we had been thinking of pressing some records, then I came across this "overhead mechanism" for what I believe is a Presto...
