Re: Record Collection Sale Question

If its someone in Minneapolis, you should contact Dave at Hymie's records in south Minneapolis. He's a standup guy and sometimes purchases collections.

Re: Laser Cut Grooves... A Cutting Laser makes a record

Supposedly souri has been developing a laser-based record cutter for the last few years. Supposedly it cuts faster than real-time. Has anyone seen one these machines? He told me he has a few prototypes out to a couple users.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Is westrex 2b the same as the Neumann 20:1?

Overhead pitch RPM calculation

I've been trying to figure a formula for this, and I keep confusing myself. Maybe someone here can help. I'm trying to figure out what RPM range I'll need for the motor to control my overhead. Given a turntable speed (33 or 45), a desired LPI for the grooves on the record (say 200, or any value) and...

looking for microscope

Hi trolls, I'm writing because I'm looking for a microscope. I'd like to find something that would be good for measuring grooves. I've tried a couple USB microscopes but they didn't have enough magnification. Anyone have a lead on a good microscope (USB or standard) that can be used for measuring gr...

Has anyone noticed a difference between cast and extruded clear acrylic? I've always used extruded, but a plastics guy told me cast would be better for the application.. So I ordered a couple small chunks that I'm going to try out.

Thanks!

I wonder if you had a sapphire without burnishing facets if it would cut acrylic (or other materials) better....

Popular records at 0dB

I'm trying to do a very rough calibration of a meter to show the level of my cuts... Is there a couple examples of popular albums/songs that are 0dB cuts?

I'm just trying to get in the ballpark of 0dB.

Wanted : Used/broken Neumann stylus/shank

Does anyone have a junk Neumann stylus that they want to get rid of? I'm working on a DIY cutterhead, and I want to try and get the stylus holder right before I try and stuff a new stylus in it, since it's a conical hole. Even if you just have the shank I'd be interested.

Quiet acrylic cuts?

Hey trolls! So I've been doing tons of experiments with ruby + acrylic cuts, and have been getting pretty decent results with my 1C, especially cutting slower than playback. The one thing I'm struggling with is cutting a quiet groove. I've tried plastic polish, using lamps, heated stylus... Does any...

Homemade cutter

I've had good luck with springs from McMaster. Do a search for "precision extension springs" on their website. They have tons of options... I don't remember what I used, but that's where I got a replacement from.
