Re: FS: Picture disc “production toolbox"

Can someone explain how this process works with this system? I've tried making picture discs by sandwiching two blanks, but this looks different.

Re: stylus heating question (plastic)

I feel like it depends on the blanks. Sometimes stylus heating makes more noise for me than just using a lamp. I’m sure room conditions have some effect on that.

Re: Cutting Stylus Weights

I use an Ohaus model 8261-M Hey there, Aaron, been a while! Is there a particular type of spring gauge you use? I've seen a few different types out there, and too many times, I end up buying a bunch of random tools that I'm never gonna use. In our region, you're not going to find one of those in a h...

Re: Cutting Stylus Weights

I feel like a spring gauge will get you in the ballpark and using a microscope to look at the grooves will get you the rest of the way. At least that’s what I do.

Re: Cutting Stylus Weights

For PETG with a diamond, I usually use around 15-20g. Depends on what the grooves look like under a microscope and how old the stylus is.

Ionizer?

I’ve been having really bad issues with chip pickup lately, using myshank diamonds and blanks. Thinking of getting an ionizer. What do you all use for an ionizer, and how well does it work for you? I’ve been using anti static fluid but I keep having problems. Wondering if it’s just the time of year.

Cutting flexis?

Has anyone here ever tried to cut the flexis that myshank offers? Been curious about them. Anyone want to share experiences with them?

Re: My DIY cutter up to now..

I use a Stanton st150 and don’t really have problems with torque cutting with a diamond. Just have to nudge the pitch adjust up a tiny bit.

Re: Polycarbonate Record Played on Gramophone (video link attached)

You may want to email Myshank, I remember having a conversation with them a while back and it sounded like they actually do produce diamonds for 78 grooves.

Re: without stylus heat

I only use heat when the stylus starts getting dull. When I use heat with a full stylus, I don’t get squeaking, I usually get kinda more background static. Like you’re playing a beat up record. Then I switch on heat and it usually clears it up (until it’s too dull)

I took a metal 45 adapter, tapped it with a set screw. Works great!

Custom 12” jacket printing?

Hi, I’m looking for custom one-off 12” jacket printing. I contacted a couple leads I saw here but no one got back to me. Does anyone know of anyone actively doing this?

Re: A New Source for Blank Records

Just to be fair, my method was totally not scientific and I compared to a black Myshank blank. Also, I have no idea of stylus life.

I tried cutting these with a diamond, worked great! Swarf looked the same as Myshank blanks, and noise floor seemed the same. Good job!
