10x eyepieces are the most common of microscope optics; brand name doesn't matter - Spencer/AO/Bausch & Lomb/Zeiss all work the same (Leitz microscopes were slightly different in their optical paths). You don't want one of the newer infinite focal lens eyepieces, get a early to mid century one off t...

That looks like a beauty -except for that relay control unit, what a monster! My compliments to the previous owner for packaging it so well and keeping all the parts together. I've been working since January on a somewhat older Scully lathe, with 1700 series transistor electronics - and the power tr...

Transforming a mono cutterhead into a stereo one? Not likely, the mechanisms are completely different. I suppose you can convert a canoe into an airplane too, but it might be easier to start from scratch.

We've got S/N 423. It's not an LS-76, it dates from about 1940.

Of course the Prestos, as well as all other lathes were designed with intention of recording acoustic music. I think piano, being an acoustic instrument, is a lot easier to record properly than the heavily compressed and digified electronic music we normally encounter nowadays. Look for the loudest ...

Very nice, are you using it? How's it run? I work on a slightly older version of Scully lathe, with constant speed carriage advance, but the same Westrex head & electronics setup.

Depends on whether the BSB uses a passive optocoupler (ex: Urei LA4, Westrex 1700 hi freq limiter) or a some active electronic stage like a VCA as its gain element (ex: dbx 160, Brooke Siren DPR402). A limiter I built recently (to adjust mono/stereo mix of bass by level) uses a Vactrol optocoupler, ...

I bought an advance ball from Apollo recently; its construction is not trivial. It's a precision machined jewel. I think we'll put in an order for a couple spares, just in case.

Lead screw rotation rate

I know the Rek-O-Kut and Presto overhead lathes use lead screws that are keyed to the turntable platter, and are constant speed. I'm working on a variable speed motor drive for use on our 1940's era Scully lathe (have a working prototype already), and am looking for information about the viability o...

SCAM : Neumann SX74 head on Craigslist

No relation or interest in this item: http://leeds.craigslist.co.uk/msg/2952951692.html I contacted the seller, he wanted £1250 + shipping (not £250 as stated in the ad). We decided to pass on it, but if this item is legit , the price seems quite reasonable to me. Note that the Craigslist ad has the...
