Re: Grampian Type D - Reconditioning

Hello, I wounded saddle coils, for grampian replica, and is not really difficult. You have to wind them round first, around a cylinder (I used a marker) and with two rubber stops away from a 3mm gap. Then wind first the feedback with the thinnest wire you can get, and then, around hundred turns of t...

Some UV (ultraviolet filter) polycarbonate gave me this results.... Some have filter in one side only, and the difference is distinguishable

Re: ATOM / VANROCK CUTTER HEAD RESEARCH

Hello Hi Fela! Wow that is a really cool mod, props! Glad to see other Atom/Vanrock owners upgrading and experimenting. Do you mind sharing what improvements you observed after swapping out the magnet? What sort of improvements will this result in? Does it affect the frequency response or allow you ...

Re: ATOM / VANROCK CUTTER HEAD RESEARCH

This pics are from machines I repaired years ago, (not mine) I don't know if there were any resistor in the head path, or transformers.
Cheers,
Fela

Re: Hi All, my first Post. Saludos desde España.

Hello, I measure the pressure or weigth of the stylus against the blank with an scale. There's dedicated scales for turntables, this measure has to be made at the stylus (not other par of the cutter head) and at the same level of the blank, outside the disc. But I don't really need to do it, just wa...

Re: Schematic for Vanrock/Atom 101?

Atom/Vanrocks and Haras have a very low DC resistance, around 2 ohm or less, at least what I have measured... Coil wires are not vert thin..

I think they use a 6,5w@8ohm STK011

Thanks for posting the schematics, it's an interessant way of controlling speed...
And your recording machines look fantastic!

Re: Russia asks: How was recording speed set on 1950's lathe motors?

I mean, outside the motor, some electromagnetic device that mechanically can impede the free turning of the plate, maybe atracting metal moving parts, or best without physical contact, just magnetic attraction, or eddie current action... It does the job of the intermediate roller you mentioned above...

Re: Russia asks: How was recording speed set on 1950's lathe motors?

Serg: "In one of such books the author recommended to use the electric motor from Melody MG-56 tape recorder. And he regulated the frequency of rotation of the disk by changing the pressure of the intermediate roller, thereby slowing down or speeding up the electric motor." ... I wonder if that may ...

Re: Russia asks: How was recording speed set on 1950's lathe motors?

I think that the motor should be synchronous, not asynchronous. The speed in an asychronous allways decrease as it developes torque.
Synchronous motors are rare to find...
Hope this helps.

Re: There are no dumb questions

Hello,
Noise also comes when the stylus is too sharp, tearing the bottom of the groove.
You can dull out the point by letting it emboss for a while, (5-15 minutes). To avoid spoiling many blanks, I usually do it in a locked groove.
Hope it helps.
