The Kings Speech - The Movie

Hi, I watched the film "The Kings Speech" a few days ago. Without giving away too much of the story a lathe and a cut record play an important part of the story ,not to mention plenty of nice old radios and microphones. I think just for these things alone most people on the board would enjoy the fil...

I use the stellite or saphire stylii to (I think thats what you would call it) emboss cds. I just turn the stylii around 180 degrees from normal position.
depending on the recordplayer you might have to change the tracking or weight of the cartrage but their is no or very little surface noise.

Ive tried it, it doesnt work that good, lots of surface noise.
BUT I only used a sharp steel needle that had never been used, didnt feel like risking my saphire.

Hi,
This is all very interesting and I have also gotten good cuts with steel.
My question is would something like this do for sharpening?

for you guys basic stuff but we made a pickup with a cup and a needle , then tried to cut with the same set up. Then made records out of glue.

Hi,
Yea this is exactly what I do, turn the needle around.
It works well ,no swarf and the groove is deep enough.

I have tried the same thing with other plastics but it doesnt seem to help.

DIY press

In one thread, (which I cant find right now) there is a diy press using a 1 ton press.

Has anyone seen or tried to make a press with a 1-20ton hydralic press, and maybe some metal stamper?

I still have not tried this but its high on my list. I think this would be easy once you got the mix right, it seems that he is doing a good job of keeping the records really flat. Maybe adding some of that wax for cooking stuff with choco? I also really like the tin grammaphone idea that comes with...

how to remove the record platter of a wilcox gay recordette?

Hi,
I cant seem to get the record patter off, I think there is a problem with the round rubber part ,the transmission. It doesnt lift when I try, maybe the rubber part is blocking it? any ideas? I did some searches but never found this question before.

Wood glue works great, and is very flexable ,best brand is Ponal but others work good too. The only problem is that I have not had sucsess getting them perfectly flat, therefore they skip but they reproduce the music well, also im just using a record as a master and making negatives and playing them...

.

since I havent touched or heard it , im not sure.
maybe pvc or a type of hobby glass.
it could be just hobby glass in which case it would probaly have a bit of surface noise, but that would really depend on the rig used.
