Re: how-to emboss

Yes I did mention the power level in several posts. The reason for using that amp circuit was because I wanted to try to keep as much of the same brand as possible. In the morning after work I am going to a used car audio shop I know of that may have a 12 volt Sony Explode car amplifier. Trying to k...

Re: how-to emboss

One question, why didn't anyone tell me 20 watts was not enough to emboss efficiently? LOL I temporarily connected my homemade lathe stylus speakers to a 1971 200 watt stereo tube amplifier and the results were as different as night and day. You people need to inform noobies that power is as importa...

Re: Glass Stylus On Polycarbonate

By accident at first, LOL. A mirror had broken and when I was picking up the pieces I noticed one was a perfect 90* right angle :) so while my hot glue gun was warming up, I tested it across the clear centre of a CD and noticed it embossed not scratch or etch. Many things we use in the world today h...

Re: New to record cutting, exploring possible meterials

Ok, I discovered after home I had nothing to emboss to LOL, so here is a "reEmboss" over a previous attempt. Pay no attention to pops and crackles as those are distortions caused by pre-existing groove. My focus on this attempt was frequency response using new surgical steel razor on a CDR: "Chobits...

Re: New to record cutting, exploring possible meterials

On embossing on a CDR, I am getting some interesting results from a piece of new surgical steel razor that is actually at 45 degrees (90 to each side). The "attack" angle is about 10 degrees in direction of rotation. I will post audio results as soon as I get off work and get home.

I think I have done just about all I can do to get the best sound from a glass stylus with a 22 degree angle. This result was about 15 degrees in direction of rotation. Any suggestions on RIAA curve to compensate for arm resonance is welcome.

Re: The Only STEREO Lathe on Youtube I've Seen (Mine)

Added a fast spiral in/ out switch (N/C). Open it and the scroll motor goes 70% max speed. I placed it near the manual scroll stop (closed loop groove) "coz" it seemed the logical place. I was putting doing this off until I could think how it would be done using the scroll motor regulator. So even t...

Embedded HTML Player of Recorded Embossing Attempts

Does anyone on here know if it is possible, using BB Code or something, to post HTML player code in the forum instead of posting mp3 links? I was thinking it was maybe easier than clicking a link, having the person leave the forum. The player would keep them on here. Possible code: <iframe width="10...

Re: New to record cutting, exploring possible meterials

just ordinary glass at this time, but I am willing to give "Pyrex" a try. Any kind that will keep that "syringe" sharp point.

Re: New to record cutting, exploring possible meterials

You see, you take a thin mirror, score it at 45 degrees of the edge. Place on counter edge, then break off LOL. That is how I get replacement glass styli. :D http://kiwi6.com/file/uai94fap6v was embossed on CDR so you can not say "it does not work well". Most of my highest frequencies have resulted ...

Glass Stylus On Polycarbonate

Any suggestions other than surface oil or realigning the glass as this was done in this recording:
http://k007.kiwi6.com/hotlink/qsj872to28/low_level_emboss_test.mp3

I can not think of anything else besides level and groove spacing, both of which were given very wide margins on this one.

Is this for pre-emboss (reverse curve) or post playback (forward curve)?

Re: Need help building a proper line level RIAA filter

Two 4.7 uF non -polarized on each speaker & two 0.5 uF tant. on each line input (Left/Right). For bass cut / high pass. I think I could build a proper phono pre-amp which is what I need for proper playback so I can get a better reference. I am currently using a stereo mic input on my laptop for the ...

Re: New to record cutting, exploring possible meterials

I now have access to a Koobik Zerkoniah stone. LOL that is how I say it anyway :) . It does have a 45 degree angle and I counted 22 facets in the side I intend to emboss with on my homemade lathe. Factors are mounting (angle, stability). Purchased another 25 set of Sony CDRs for this experiment. Wil...

Re: how-to emboss

I do have nickel/chrome wire wrapped around the stylus seat. It is powered by the 13 volt supply on board. Remember, my lathe is completely portable and cordless if needed. I am considering adding a stereo FM tuner so I can transmit to it wirelessly (using a BA1404 with a 19KHz pilot tone) without l...
