Re: Recording service needed

I am specially interested in the texture of the sound. That's why I want the songs in that format. I'm lookin' for not too clean, not too distorted, somethin' in between. Like the old 20's, 30's shellac blues records (I know it's hard to get this sound specially because there's no shellac anymore). ...

Recording service needed

Hi there, I'm a musician from spain and after all my experiments with my "Airline" cutting lathe (Recordio type cutter) I decided I had enough. I recorded some songs (digitally) and I would like them cut to disc using a Presto, or Rek-o-kut, magnetic type recorder. I'm trying to find someone who own...

Re: Home recording with home recorders too much distortion h

I made some tests without cutting any disc, just connecting my ipod to the input, and listening to some recorded music wth my headphones. I also listened to the radio through the amp and there's a light hum background noise but it sounds pretty clear to me. I'm thinking more about the cutting head. ...

Home recording with home recorders too much distortion help!

Hi, I just made my last recording on my Airline home record cutter, with a gramophone steel needle that I sharpened myself, (It doesn't sound much different than the special for cutting standard steel needle). I used a 1942 Audiodisc acetate, no scratches but I have better ones. https://soundcloud.c...

Re: Airline cutting lathe with Sapphire stylus?

So people use sapphire/ruby till the needle is dull? and then buy a new one?

I tried to sharpen a steel needle and I couldn't cut... it's so hard to get the right angle, anyone knows a good technique? thanks!

Re: Airline cutting lathe with Sapphire stylus?

The one good thing about steel styli is that you can actually sharpen them yourself, on a sharpening stone. I do this. at this point I prefer using an old steel needle on my Recordio when I cut picnic plates. Great! and what about sapphire? cannot sharpen? Is the quality of picnic plates similar to...

Re: Airline cutting lathe with Sapphire stylus?

I've got a 2.5mm needle to reproduce old 78's and it sounds decent. I use the same needle to reproduce my acetate home records. Do you mean that the sound quality is the same using sapphire or steel? and the only difference is that sapphire last longer? I heard sapphire cuts with better quality and ...

Re: Airline cutting lathe with Sapphire stylus?

I made one recording with a steel needle: https://soundcloud.com/gang-wolf-lightnin/somebody-stole-my-jane I used a 1942 Yellow Audiodisc. It's my first acetate home recording, so you can hear extra saturation, I would like to improve the sound, the first; put a sapphire needle, I heard it cuts clea...

Airline cutting lathe with Sapphire stylus?

Hi, I'm new here, I'm from Barcelona (Spain) I just started cutting laquers with steel needles, in my Airline home cutting lathe, but I would like to know if I can use a sapphire needle. I saw some Audiopoint sapphire needles on ebay but I don't know if it would fit my cutting head. (It's almost the...
