You can use a torsion wrench used in every auto repair shop, calculate it out not hard at all The torsion wrench will give you a reading of foot pounds on the screw By extrapolating the projected area in sq/inches you should be able to get the pressure applied over the surface of the round plate As...

Non-hydraulic manual press psi gauge?

Hey,

Question. I'm still messing around with my emory cook press recreation project, and I was wondering if it possible to measure psi off a non-hydraulic press such as this:

9k is about right for a 6n these days. Only kidding. I imagine you probably saw the one on ebay recently that was going for that?! A bit steep! I did see that one.. and yeah, a little high for my budget. The one I found is going for $1800 sans the amp. I'm still deciding if I should move on it... I...

Hey guys, just curious, what do you think a fair price range would be for a 6N without the amp? The head is recoiled, and the machine is in good working condition.

Ok, did some checking and it would be a rewound 8 ohm head. I'm not sure of the variety.

Presto 6n question: alternative amps?

Hello all, Questions for all you seasoned lathers... I've got a lead on a working presto 6n I'm thinking about purchasing for a good price, the only thing is that it doesn't have an amp. I've never had any experience powering any of my lathes with anything but the stock amp. How difficult would it b...

There are several good threads on the forum about this. In short, yes, its possible, but bubbles creating surface noise are always an issue. I've played around with compression and vibration to try to limit the surface noise, but no luck! I'm still experimenting though, as this seems like such an aw...

I've got metal 45-RPM negative stamper records and was wondering what material I could use to create records from them DIY style. I now realize that maybe wood glue would work, as it is more likely to be peeled off the metal once it dries. I had tried Smoothon but it stuck to the metal like permane...

Hey Piaptk, just curious, what do you cast with? I've tried everything, and created tons of playable records, but they were always very noisy. I've tried resin, woodglue, and smoothon.

Soundscriber help?

Hey, I picked up a Soundscriber to play around with for $30 off ebay. I believe I may be getting an unhealthy amount of lathes around my house, but what is life without hobbies. It was missing a belt, and came 'as is' and untested. My girlfriend's hair tie seemed to do the trick as a replacement bel...

Hey Mark,

Are you doing anything to evenly distribute the pressure over the platens?

Yup, that's exactly what I'm planning on doing. I bought the parts for the psi gauge and attachment, but I haven't attempted to modification yet.

What pressures and timings are you using? How have your latest presses been?

Math is my forte

Ok.. not really. Actually, I've been starting to mess around with my DIY Emory Cook microfusion press again. I need to apply 300psi over the surface of the book. So that would be roughly 113 square inches. 113x300 = 33,900lbs. So I would basically need to apply 17tons of pressure to achieve 300 psi....
