Re: Embossing tech - talk
I am testing what I'm doing on some pioneer turntables that are definitely not among the best out there but also not among the worst. I found I was having the same problems as you described in the beginning so I just increased my depth of embossing. I got to the point of 3.5 mill wide grooves which ...

Re: Scam warning: Angulo Records
I should point out, that Angulos website is hosted by wordpress.com, visible at angulorecords.wordpress.com (the .com just points to that). His videos are hosted by youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvcRPdT8Gf1kf_PEvbAwW_Q. And he also has a facebook profile: https://www.facebook.com/AnguloRe...

Re: Scam warning: Angulo Records
A warning page is indeed an excellent idea. Angulo was offering his own needles and blanks as far as I know. Judging by the quality of the rest of his stuff I don't even dare think what his diamonds must be like. He single-handedly wins the award for the worst cutter head ever made. Or at least, the...

Re: Scam warning: Angulo Records
I think that Ciuens means that Angulo is dishonest. Banning Angulo from the forum doesn't sound like a bad idea, although I would be surprised if he would have the nerve to post on here again... We do not even need to try to talk bad about him, the pictures are enough on their own. The fact that he ...

Re: Scam warning: Angulo Records
Part of the problem is that I am disabled and cannot use computers myself. My partner is using the computer for me, and she did print the pictures out for me and even zoomed in to some io them but missed that one. She is not that technical so it is not that easy for her to judge if something looks r...

Re: Scam warning: Angulo Records
The coin is the only real value in this thing. On the other side it is only a washer, so unless he ran out of cash while making it, they are just there to prevent the tweeters from coming loose.

Re: Rebuilding moving iron heads
This RCA head does not have knife edge bearings. The armature is essentially a straight tube with a little rode holding it at the back. The centring is done with a torque spring which is essentially a little rode extending to one side. The damping is done with the usual piece of rubber. http://i1148...

Scam/Estafa/Trapaça: Angulo, Tangential, Mejía, Vortex Vinyl Disc Recorder C-4, C-6
[Admin note: I am re-titling this thread to include "Tangential" and "Vinyl Disc Recorder C-4", since that is the current model being offered by this scam. The original title was "Scam Warning: Angulo Records." Please note as well. This scammer uses various sites and titles that may include the name...

Rebuilding moving iron heads
I have recently had to take apart and rebuilt my RCA mono cutter head. It is an RCA MI-4896. It works pretty good after the rebuilt, but I was wondering about lubrication. Is the armature pivot bearing meant to be lubricated? It is essentially the moving part in this head. The damping of the movemen...

Embossing tech - talk
I have been experimenting with embossing using a variety of different equipment in terms of styli and heads. I'm getting pretty good results, but I feel that I don't have much of a reference point. Does anybody have any photographs, through a microscope of their embossed grooves? What sort of groove...

WTB: 50 cycle drive unit for Fairchild Model 539 lathe
Hello,
I am looking for the 50 cycle drive unit, part E539-B4, for a Fairchild Model 539.
This is the gearbox, between the motor and the turntable.
If anyone happens to come across this unit, please let me know.
Thanks and best regards,
Jesus

WTB: Radio station type record cutting lathe
Hello, I am looking to buy a record cutting lathe of the type commonly used in radio broadcasting studios during the 40's and 50's. I am considering anything from a Presto 6N to an RCA 73B or even a Fairchild 539G or any of the much more obscure stuff from any time period. I am not that interested o...

Mobile Analog Recording and Analog Mastering
Not directly lathe-related, but just thought I would put it up on here as more and more people ask me if it is possible nowadays to have a fully analog vinyl record. As in, analog recording, mixing, mastering, laquer cutting, and pressing. Of course it is, but it seems to be a common opinion that "n...

Can you post a close-up photo of how the stylus is attached to your cutterhead? I am interested in comparing the different kinds of fixtures. Especially interested in all things Neumann, Westrex, Haeco, Vinyl Recorder, Vinilium, Caruso, Presto. Thanks in advance to anyone who will go through the tro...

Re: Calculating costs and cutterhead lifespan
"A record lathe is a hole in the studio you pour money into." That's optimistic...! Thanks for all the information everyone. I've pretty much settled on the vinylrecorder for now. I hope it all goes smooth and well. Obviously, you'll be hearing much more from me when I actually get the thing in my ...

What cartridge do you use on your lathe?
What kind of (playback tonearm) cartridges do you use on your lathes? I was wondering about that, while looking at several videos of lathes as well as pictures on the net. Is it just a matter of taste, as in a standard playback system? Or are there different expectations/problems/needs from a cartri...

Re: Considerations when switching stylii types
I'm not sure how much actual guidance I can have locally really. There is this one cutter I'm working with, but he doesn't seem too keen on passing on his knowledge and experience as far as cutting goes. So I don't know how much he'd be willing to help. He seems a bit secretive. But, I guess this is...

Re: Considerations when switching stylii types
read this thread for embossing/impressing info: http://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3289&hilit=leaning+back&sid=951906e34aabe3a0ec723c378b102e6c I would describe it more as 'pushing down' than 'scratching'. Also I use the same stylus for cutting as I do for embossing, no physical difference...

Re: stick-struck drums
Let's ban trumpets too!! Nah, just kidding.. I'm a drummer and I play with sticks. I always use industrial-grade hearing protection, the same that I use when I shoot my guns (which I haven't surrendered yet and I'm not likely to). I also use the same hearing protection when I hammer nails, when I us...
