I'm thinking that the Lord of the Bass option might be the one as it can be thinned with MEK.

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
I'm glad people follow my work. Since this forum thread is about diamond machining and not lathes, I'll keep it short. I spent several years developing and refining the lathe you're talking about. A huge amount of money was spent making it profitable. I cannot give you the work of several years of ...

Hi, I just saw that you have been experimenting with sapphires. Here is a source of synthetic sapphire which may be of interest

Re: Upgrading a DIY Cutterhead
Hi, Well done on your head design and construction. I've also built a head based on Grooveguy's design, I too found his descriptions of the project encouraging and inspiring. I don't think I would have attempted this otherwise. Here is a link to t thread about my cutting head if you are interested. ...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
I stopped worrying about knives with artificial diamonds, because CBN is easier to grind with diamond discs and practically lasts on copper for the same amount of time, but diamond is 100 times more expensive, so for experiments I buy such used CBN knives [they turn hardened steel] for $ 10 for 10 ...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
I don’t think that heat would have been an issue given that the burnishing facet and cutting edges were done manually. I’ll keep this in mind though. I wonder if using water will produce a better mirror finish?

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
A quick photo showing both modulated and unmodulated grooves in the lacquer. You can see a lot of very fine scratches on the surface of the lacquer - it's an old one for experimenting. Still plays back reasonably. The grooves are probably a bit wide, around 3.8 mil. I set stylus weight to 25g so cou...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
As a little aside from making diamond styli, I also had a go at making my own sapphire cutting styli a while back. I managed to find a source of sapphire rods which are about 0.7mm diameter. Since I'm starting with a rod, the first step was to create a flat mirror surface. I'm pretty sure I did this...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
I'm interested to see what others have to say on this topic - I tried using ceramic bonded discs, but found the removal rate was too slow - or maybe I'm too impatient, as it seems like Estrada is getting usable results with a bit of patience... Hi I have a terribly simple question.... Using a facet...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
I think there are many ways of approaching the cutting angles, but this is how I do it. I set up the my my faceting tool so that there is an angle of 40.89 degrees between the diamond and the scaife. This achieves a 90 degree tip with a back angle of 30 degrees. I worked backward from this to get th...

Re: Stereo Cutting Head - based on Grooveguys design
Welcome to the world of lathe cutting acemc. I can certainly send through some STL file for the 3D printed parts, you may need to modify them to fit your lathe once you've built this but it should be enough to get you going. I agree with Markrob's suggestion of going smaller rather than bigger with ...

Re: Big mistake while tightening tension rod.
Hi, I have one of these heads. I haven't had this issue but at one point I was looking to re-do this connection for some reason. I think I was getting a lot of distortion I couldn't explain and thought this might have been the problem, I think the problem ended up being a blown amp. In the end I lef...

Re: Stereo Cutting Head - based on Grooveguys design
Hello all, Just thought I'd share on a bit of progress with the cutting head. I had been struggling with distortion at higher volumes so I went back to basics and did another pink noise test and found that I had a resonant peak around the 5khz mark. I seemed to have missed this before, probably beca...
