i don't know any suppliers in the USA or southamerica,

but been to NYC, i have seen some plant using
the atofina PVC from france...

also GZ sell their own material


price is around 1,50 EUR

There is one from the AES: its called "Disk Recording Vol. 1 - An Anthology" And contains artciles from the Journal Of The Audio Engineering Society... its very scientific but also has some good information about RIAA-filters, Tracing Distortion, Pitch correction... btw: what is the Robert Morrison ...

its a grampian type D with feedback and oil damping... but forget about the oil and also feedback is not really needed... yes its the good ol jamaica style: arrows recording studio got one of these, and i heard that also king tubby was using it..but who knows? at the moment its not for sale..sorry.....

yes it seems to burn the plastic if you cut with
heated styli...so you cannot vacuumclean it away...

you shouldnt try to cut 45s at 78 you shoudl even go for a 33 motor and cut 45 at 33, you see the problem is: all the old not so professional cutterheads, dont have a good frequency range... so if you pitch up your recordings to 78 that is 78/45 times the original all the frequencies of the original...

i think you all know: piezo crystal heads are the worst sounding... folowed by moving magnets like the grampian... and state of the art: moving coil... crystals (like used in old telephones) and very old pickup systems dont have an linear fequency response... moving magnets are more stable, the coil...

chip removal

you could use something like this: http://amei.se/photos/bong.jpg it works for me but there are better solutions... the lady in the headshop, where i bought this one went: "are you stoned, buddy?" when I told her that i need this waterpipe for removing tiny "hairs" from my record cutting machine :) ...

I heard a testcut of this thing, its alright! some people here in germany say its a bit dull... but i think it depends a lot on the person who uses it... the trick is also: it uses diamond styli and not saphire (we tried to cut into souris-vinylrecorder-plates with normal cutterheads... its not poss...

what you might need is...

Hey aaron, what you need is an Grampian Type D cutter, undestroyable...gives more or less good results, although i now switched to the SC99 from vinylium... you could the grampian from a guy called rob van dyke he puts stuff like that on ebay from time to time... i think grampian head will be around...
