Re: Did I blow my TKV Cutting head?

Just wanted to update this thread. i did indeed burnout one channel of the cutting head. I was using a 1 amp fast blow fuse which was way too high for this cutting head. Kostix recommended i use a 500ma fast blow. I sent my cutting head for repair to Kostix and he did an excellent job in repairing i...

Re: TKV Cutting head not working

so i checked the leads coming out the head and it seems one of them is not working.

The other channel is working well as it passes sounds when connected to the amplifier.

But when i connect the other channel there is no sound from its side.

Re: TKV Cutting head not working

i’m gonna run some test to see if maybe my amp might have blown a fuse and check my wiring.

It is really strange how the head just stopped working.
I didn’t see any smoke or smell any burnt electronics.

I checked to see if the fuses i used were blow out and they seem to be ok. I’m starting to believe the speakers inside are blown. Does anyone know what kind of...

Re: Rek-o-kut embossing, first attempt

it could be that the inside damping material inside your cutting head have dried up and needs replacement. from the video it looks like your sending a good signal and the playback needle seems to track well. Also i noticed that when playing back a embossed record and it sounds a bit distorted or muf...

Re: Where are people buying their blank acetates from?

well i remember Apollo masters started making those thinner dub plates for scratching and for Dj use. i actually bought some back in the day and they actually sort of worked. But since they are not around any more my best option would be to go the diamond needle cutting petg plastic route. It would ...

Where are people buying their blank acetates from?

So its been a while since i bought some blank acetates. i've been embossing for awhile. And wanna get back into cutting loud records i can scratch with. I have seen the news on Apollo masters accident and it doesn't look like on their site you can purchase blanks anymore. So is there any other place...

Re: Dynamics before or after RiAA?

For my signal chain i usually go: Music source - mixing board / Eq - RIAA box - Cutting Head Amplifier - Cutting head. i have a fuse inline with the cutting amplifier to cutting head that protects the head incase a loud signal ever hits it. But my set up is all mono and im not cutting masters or any...

Re: 100Hz hum: Motor noise?

that looks like it will work!
Where did you find the parts for that?

Did you have to find new dampen material for it?
I can probably go to the local hardware store to get the longer bolts and stuff.

Thanks for the help

Re: 100Hz hum: Motor noise?

Hello, i am having this same problem with my recordings using my Presto 6N lathe with Neumann cutting head. Has anyone found a way to dampen the moto sound / vibrations coming from the Presto motor? Its really audible in the recordings when i turn the volume up. its sort of like a low frequency tone...

Re: 5 in blank discs?

the link i provided is not Myshank its Turntable lab based out of New York.

They sell the blanks for your lathe that are made for your cutter.
The myshank ones probably wont work on your cutter.
As i noticed the Gakken ones are a harder plastic

Re: Needle noise?

My bad! Currently running a sapphire needle on a PETG blank, as for skill, absolute beginner about a week into cutting, no full successes. you cant cut with a Sapphire on PETG. If you have more Sapphire needles. i would save those for acetate disc. Get some embossing needles from Piaptk or ebay and...

Re: part of a 5c presto head question

The part mentioned is considered as both the armature and stylus mount It is made of brass then plated (Copper would have been too soft to use) The armature/stylus mount screws to the housing - It is also insulated/ damped between the alloy base plate and layered plates the magnet rests on To repla...
