Looking at the Presto head above, I see that mine doesn't have an advance ball. Could that cause the head to be exerting extra weight on the stylus, and possibly causing the whistle? Does anyone know where to get an advance ball and who installs them?Steve E. wrote:

Re: Presto K8 fuzz, distortion and high frequency tone issue
You are cutting 78s, right? so 3 minutes in is approaching the end of the cutting area when cutting Out -> In. ...as the friction increases nearer to the center of the record, the stylus is whistling as it cuts the lacquer. Are you using fresh acetates or old ones? Remember that 78s were typically ...

For Sale: 10 12 inch Apollo Master Discs
Looks like I bought more masters then I require. I am based in Toronto, ON, so this is a nice opportunity for a Canuck to buy Apollo masters without having to worry about duty or tax.
Would really like to sell at cost, $242 for ten.
Email ely(dot)rosenblum(at)gmail(dot)com if interested!

Re: Presto K8 fuzz, distortion and high frequency tone issue
The article posted above says that the radio input is about the right impedance for a modern audio signal coming from an aux output, so I don't think impedance is the problem. And the bizarre tone I get after 3 minutes of cutting? I'm not sure what that would be! I'll replace the caps and see if the...

New users, new questions!! (Presto K8)
Hi all! I am a music and media researcher working out of the University of Cambridge, living in Toronto, ON right now. I've just bought a Presto K8 off ebay, looking to cut discs from Apollo masters, some picnic plates and acrylic (all with different styli of course!) Given the K8 operates at 33rpm ...
