Webster electric cutterhead
Anybody have experience with these? I want to say model no. is0043 but it's hard to read. Got it with a Rek o Kut M5. Seems to have a crappy high end performance and a distorted bottom end. Could be my amp, but it sounds fine thru speakers. I've rebuilt a 1-c successfully before so I'm sure I can ha...

Re: Help identifying some new equipment
The complete challenger is indeed an all in one unit. The one in the box will need an external amp. The 92-b will be good. Unfortunately I don't see any heads on the second one or the spare overhead. The suitcase lathe is a meissner, needs a ton of work and not worth much, the other presto unit appe...

Re: k8 worm gear
Great work!. I haven't had any problems with my gears wearing or breaking on my k10 and I have the original gears. I would think there's something wrong with your gear allignment to cause that

Re: Is there a good reason not to cut 78 lps?
All good as I suspected. I've got a manual on order so I can sort out the preamp. There's some loose wires and some suspect repairs done that I need to address. Then I I can start poking around in the Capehart flip over 78 changers I got in the same sale. (After I finish replacing the floors and cha...

It looks just like the redhead cartridge on the needles site.

Re: Is there a good reason not to cut 78 lps?
I think this an m100a or possibly m100b mech? Don't know if it's original to the unit. I'll check the SN# when I get a chance to narrow down when it was made.

Re: Is there a good reason not to cut 78 lps?
I'm still new to the world of Seeburg jukes but I think I have the red head on it, which would be ok with microgroove. It sounds like shit on my shellac 78s. I think cause it's bottoming out in the groove. I'll just have to cut some tests to find out.

Is there a good reason not to cut 78 lps?
I just got a 78 rpm Seeburg home library jukebox and my 78 collection is lacking, so I wanna cut some new records for it. It holds 100 10 or 12" discs. I know on older lathes where the carriage is coupled to the platter, the play time is limited by the speed, but that's not the case on a VR, so is t...

Some new avquisitions
Got some cool shizz from an estate auction. Seeburg home library unit (jukebox guts without the coin op stuff), a couple of postwar capehart flip over record changer mechs, an early capehart 10-12 changer mechs and a victor v-225 changer mech

Re: Newb questions about groove :)
The profile of the cutting stylus is narrower, and a steel gramophone needle at the headweight they play at will wear out a record super fast. But if you play it back with a super sharp cactus needle it can work.

Re: DIY lathe , new to this , what am i doing wrong ? :)
185 grams seems really heavy to me, even for embossing. I'd definitely lighten up on that weight. When embossing on my presto with a reversed standard pitch sapphire I think I'm around 50, cutting with a sapphire or diamond it's around 15-20. The extra weight of embossing will cut your high frequenc...

Re: Using two VR T560 at once?
We eliminated Souri's system for a more direct signal path and run all the eq curve stuff in the DAW and just split the signal to the two amps. Took a bit of tinkering to get it dialed in and balanced but sounds great. On the vac side, it's a single vac to a pvc tee to each chip jar.

Re: Complete newbie seeking guidance
There's a manual uploaded in the references forum, it should have a schematic for the amp. Off the top of my head I think the tubes you need are 2 45 triodes, 1 80 rectifier, and 4 6v6s? But check out the schematic, I could be wrong on that. Probably a good idea to recap it too. Piaptk can probably ...

Re: Trying to create a book in the format as the old talk-to-me format
Well shit you're right. Its been a few years since I messed with them but I realized where I got that misconception from. When I cut a 78 rpm and it played back fast my brain didn't make the connection that it played fast because it was cut slow so I assumed it was 45. I couldn't cut 45 so I just mo...

Re: Trying to create a book in the format as the old talk-to-me format
Yes, they do play at 45. I have a few of them and the books and cards they play, see my previous post. It's not the same mech as a talking doll or the mighty tiny or those mini record players from the 60s. It's a similar basis, but I've taken those apart as well and they were acoustic. These players...
