That's not actually a lathe in the cutting sense, it records onto a disk magnetically similar to tape - no actual cutting at all and you have to have a special disk that I think can only be played back on this machine or a similar type you can't play the disk on a standard record player using a styl...

If you feel more confident using the machine now, then you could try doing a careful short test cut and seeing if you get better results.
