stylus heating
Mixed thoughts. Read here about it that it helps cutting, and stylus has less torque to the plastic so it will last longer. Read here also that it…. shortens stylus life. Two years of cutting, still little confused… (Souri told me also that he probably will not implement stylus heating in the future...

Re: Better turntable for cutting than SL1210?
update: did the "100k" mod to SL1210 (according to vinylium specs) and it has a bit better torque but DON'T DO THAT!!! If the platter has a bit of touch the leds are shaking left and right, so forget about good cuts, they all have "tremolo effects".. So, stick to your R209 resistor which should be 3...

Re: cutting blank pressed records with diamond
What do you mean by contour? I see only contours on outside diameter, on the lead in (max10mm) and inner (when the labels are put), so should be ok? or maybe i'm missing something?

cutting blank pressed records with diamond
Can't find any good info about it.
What are recommended disc heating temperatues?
What stylus heating to apply?
Is the stylus working harder than on PC/plastic blanks? - I mean, will it wore out easier?
Any other useful tips?

Warped blanks are nightmare. 50% of white other supplier's 12's are warped and unusable too. So, not only Souri's...

Re: Better turntable for cutting than SL1210?
Thanks for the replies/ I will test Reloop 6000/7000/8000 this week. All of them has more RUNNING torque than SL1200 series (2.5kg or more comparing to 1.5/1.7kg o Technics) http://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4865&p=29675&hilit=RELOOP#p29675 good luck  For cutting - only "wobble" p...

Better turntable for cutting than SL1210?
I searched the web for the highest torque turntables. The Reloop RP-8000 has up to 4.5kg torque (and 0,02 wow&flutter), the Stanton STR8-150 has also 4.5kg (but 0,10 wow/flutter). Technics 1200/1210 has only 1.7kg (but 0,01 w/f). Has anyone tried these two in cutting situation? Or maybe you have ano...

Re: Surface noise difference with makrolon, lexan & cdr (emb
Do you really cut polycarbonate? Makrolon feels so hard... CdRs are not polycarbonate. Its something different.
How about HIPS? anyone tried it? Also- what are your noise and temperature experiences cutting plain PVC pressed vinyl?

Will Caruso cutterhead fit onto VR??
Is Caruso cutterhead worth its price? Is it possible to mount it on VR without mods?

Re: Problem with test pressing
A lot of current-recorded music can't translate well to vinyl without proper remixing (not even mastering).

Re: How do you deal with more noise on the disc edge than ce
I've already done that and the noise is still there. BTW its very hard to apply heat to the stylus placing it on the disc (you can ruin the stylus). BTW, I'm wondering how the acetates are made then - without that noise...

How do you deal with more noise on the disc edge than center
The question is not related to any specific equipment. I think most of amateur and semi-pro equipment like Presto or VR has this issue. Almost 2-3 times more noise near the edge than near the center of vinyl record. Is it related strictly to temperature? I can imagine than it's very hard to get cons...

For sale (EU): Recordette 8JIOU
For sale Wilcox-Gay Recordette 8JIOU form 1940's. It's in VERY GOOD shape. No rust, looks like it's been stored in dry room all the time. The platter moves OK. All knobs work smooth and OK. There are some new cutting needles with (5-10pcs) and some playing needles to (as I remember good). I bought i...

Re: calibrate /configure T560
Also! I have my suspicions that Souri's RIAA encoder is actually not even in the main unit, it's somewhere on the Lathe itself (perhaps inside of the box that the cutterhead plugs into). I have similar thoughts. The low end blocker is not in the main unit. The RIAA curve is so strange. By the way, ...

Re: calibrate /configure T560
JP, You're not right. This is not compressor, this is not EQ. These are tools that can't empty your wallet or destroy something when using them. VR is precise and unusual equipment. If I buy solvent printer or a laser cutter I always get support, from precise calibration to daily use and troubleshoo...
