Re: Pheenix Alpha Sell 100 Presses!!
I've been pessimisstic about the longevity of vinyl since I started doing it full time, a decade ago... I've always just been waiting for the other shoe to fall... but the last year has been the first year in that whole time that I really believe that it has at least another decade or more of viabil...

Re: White noise cutting
Have you read the Newbie Starter Guide to make sure you are using the correct type of needle on the correct type of plastic? https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=8328 Also, once the needle is toast (which it might be if you used it on the wrong type of plastic), it will never again be qu...

Presto 6N or 8N Inside Out Feedscrews for sale
I've accumulated a pile of Inside out Feedscrews for Presto 6Ns/8Ns over the years. All coarse pitches... 112, 120, maybe a 136. If anyone is interested, would take $100 each or be happy to trade.

Re: New lathe wanted (EU)
I can occasionally be persuaded to deliver a lathe from the US to Europe through carryon luggage, which minimizes shipping and customs and ensures you get training and set up on your hometurf.

Re: Rek-o-Kut lathe
With ROK lathes, there is no capstan adapter, changing the speed was done with different sized idlers. If your lathe motor plate in front of the turntable says 33/45/78 then somewhere along the way your 45 idler got lost. But that's good because you can have another one made. If it doesn't say 45, t...

Re: Rek-o-Kut lathe
Thanks for the plug Tim! Hi Dave, yes, you can use our embossing blanks on polycarbonate. If you really want 78, though, you will have to experiment to get grooves deep enough to play back on an acoustic phonograph. It can be done, and we have done it, but it took a fair amount of testing to get the...

Re: Recording on Plastic Plates vs Laquer
Ive used Safeway’s “Signature” brand picnic plates with “good” results. Fidelity was actually very nice, the noise floor was a bearable white noise beneath it. Solo brand plates should give you the same.

Re: First step to everything!
Thank you Dogtemple! Yeah I understand thats why I think I should make one from the beginning... Why "Make one from the beginning" if you've never actually seen one up close to know how it works? I would personally buy a starter lathe and cutter head, learn all the nuances and mechanics on that, an...

Yes, 1/8" is no problem, as long as you adjust the right side of the overhead so that the overhead is level across the face of the disc. You can also just take off the platter mat, which should get you close.

Re: Looking for advice for a Vanrock 101 embossing issue
When you say "Not clean", what do you mean exactly? Noise floor or distortion in the audio? Noise floor could mean TOO MUCH weight (as could distortion). Your head could have a problem (though I haven't heard of many problematic Van Rock/Atom heads) if it is distortion. Give it the solo cup test (pu...

For a mono Westrex for your Scully, hit up Len and Jacob Horowitz at HistoryofRecordSound.com. They probably have one or two for sale.

Re: Looking for advice for a Vanrock 101 embossing issue
Get a 100g spring scale on amazon or something. Then make sure you have 35g of weight on the head. You can add weight, OR you can pull the stylus out a little further, which will add more weight.
