Re: Project "Groove Scribe"- A DYI stereo 45/45 head.
would be great if you play back that.for 10seconds and then then with same setting you add your groove scribe recording in same file. and make that uncompressed file available.then its possible to compare. Sure, I would be interested in doing that. I'll PM you my address. You should already have it...

Wow, some heated discussion around here in my absence. How about if you guys check out test cut #2 using the response curves from my previous post. I'm pretty happy with this round of testing. OBkKVuo8nSY Oh and by the way, that Alesis DIO2 was advertised as being 24 bit, up to 48K sample rate. But ...

Re: Project "Groove Scribe"- A DYI stereo 45/45 head.
Here is a quick update. Major progress last weekend. I've made a few changes to the head and had better response as shown below. I'll be posing a new test cut / video and then start discussing the parts and how I made them. I've added some Sorbothane in several key locations, including behind the V ...

Re: BD's Mechanical Disk Recorder Build
Stepper motors can't be used for a pitch system. Unless you like hearing the stepper motor functioning in unmodulated grooves. I don't agree. But there are a few things he will need to do. 1). Start with a fine pitch leadscrew. 2). Microstep the motor - I would go 50,000 steps per rev. 3). Use a be...

[quote="Ciuens"]just print new springs in ABS to test the results, and seem much more exciting. AWESOME!!!!! Ciuens, your video is a must view for anyone who is having a hard time visualizing how this 45/45 system works! I know Todd has a good handle on this but I had a really hard time getting my h...

Re: Project "Groove Scribe"- A DYI stereo 45/45 head.
All the sudden, I may have to ditch the entire video / first cut test because YouTube (owned by Google) recognized the song in the test and sent me this nasty-gram: "Your video may include music that is owned by a third party. To hear the matched music please play the video on the right. The video w...

Re: Project "Groove Scribe"- A DYI stereo 45/45 head.
You don't know that it is actually stereo until you do test cut with audio delivered to the head in just one channel. Todd, I love you like a brother but it's stereo man. Listen again. I will do Right only and Left only noise cuts this weekend. That will not only give channel separation data, but w...

Project "Groove Scribe"- A DYI stereo 45/45 head.
I call this project the "Groove Scribe". It's a DYI stereo cutting head you can build yourself with off the shelf drivers and lots of work on your part. Right now, this is a non feedback project. This is a new thread, using things learned from a previous thread ... http://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.p...

Re: V1.0 of Bryan's 3D printed head with feedback
Todd as usual has awesome inputs. No time to respond tonight. The good news is the weekend nears. So, no test data tonight. While mounting the head (on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off) I stripped out one of the plastic mounting holes in the head. I have installed threaded studs with JB Metal weld. It will ...

No time to test tonight, but here is a photo of a new version that does in fact satisfy the requirements of a 45/45 stereo head! The glue isn't even dry let! Yes, the #secretknowledge has been applied and it will be explained in detail in a new thread. And, I have a new code name for the project whi...

Re: V1.0 of Bryan's 3D printed head with feedback
Hello Bryan, I am working on a similar design using the same transducers. Hey there. Interesting that you sunk the drivers down. That makes the head wider but sure works. The great thing is you have full access to the driver springs so if it turns out we need to dampen them they are accessible. I'm...

Now the question before I share some #SecretKnowlage... why in the hell would I have the torque tube connect in the front and the back of the housing? I should quote this again to poke at Todd, and make sure everyone pays attention to this one little detail. That secret sauce is SO good.... Just li...

Re: V1.0 of Bryan's 3D printed head with feedback
Stay tuned in the next few days for a totally new post about a totally new design for a DYI head. The head in this thread is not dead but needs so many changes (wow, what a rhythm there). I'm going to apply the changes to a new head with new drivers. The new head will not have feedback initially, bu...

Re: V1.0 of Bryan's 3D printed head with feedback
Have you decided to make this a dynamic head for now or does it have the feedback section as we'll. For now, I decided to back up and make sure it could work with no feedback. It turns out it can't without a redesign of the push rods, attachment to the driver, stylus holder and torque tube and asse...
