Re: How much torque does cutting lacquer need?
I prefer to stay away from the term "High End", we can't measure that. We're talking about great turntables here they are all perfect for cutting nice masters. we're comparing in the range of 0.0xx% WRMS (JIS C5521).. none is going to hear a difference.

Re: Optical check (microscope, camera)
Hi Thomas, regarding optical check. Optical microscope: There's really a lot of choice.. including cheap ones from OEM manufacturers. It really depends how much you want to invest.. you probably already have a good one I don't think that we need the very expensive stuff for our activity. I'd say wha...

Re: pressing up 50 vinyl records ?
Pressing such a small run can hardly get cheaper. You need to count cutting, plating and pressing plus sleeves and labels. Yes you pay a bit more for colors if you want clean colors.. I wouldn't order overseas at all, it's not going to be cheaper not going to be better and you'll pay shipping plus i...

Get an SP10 mKII. Perfect easy to find and good price. For me the MK3 are overkill, a bit harder to find and therefore overpriced.

Should we think about some rules to start protecting threads from individuals or companies doing their own self advertisement? Me I'd prefer to have a clean healthy forum focused on sharing unbiased information, tips, work experiences nice stories etc. All the posts covering advertisement, product a...

Re: Neumann Disk Mastering products
As far as I know all those patents are 20+ years therefore expired. They are available for anyone willing to extend his knowledge and develop new products. Those older patents are a great historical source but I see little to no interest in copying or cloning old designs. We have more experience and...

Re: Shure pulling the plug on phono cartridge production
Tsokay.. can't you see we're going to have some laser cartridges for reading our news HD vinyls  Behind Shure's official statement I read Lower Profit. Shure is a huge corporation. The phono market share was very small compared to microphones, PA etc. Shure did some great R&D in the past but th...

Re: New lasercut ''High Definition Vinyl''
Hello to the community! Does anyone know if this new technology will affect current Lathe cut process? Meaning will it be able to cut small amounts of records as currently is done by VR or other equipment? Thank you Yeah what Tragwag says.. I don't think so cause laser on plastics wouldn't make a n...

Re: Flattening bowed polycarbonate
If the sheets didn't got bowed from excessive heat you should be able to fix it. I'd say light heating (something from 35 to 40°C?) and pressure. Nothing too strong. Sometimes blanks or sheets are slightly bowed, usually letting it seat flat at room temperature (around 23°C) for a few day makes it r...

I decided to put the survey on hold.
Myshank asked me not to appear on the questions / answers / results. I don't see any point in publising a truncated survey or censoring some of the answers and on the other hand I think it's fair to respect Steven's request.

Re: Project : Diamond stylus for lacquers
But a 'dark horse' appeared on the horizon, the Ogura Jewel Bearing Co. of Japan. They wanted into the market in a bad way, and would even communicate (by surface mail!) with a teenage kid in California. I received a couple of samples from them and was blown away by the quality of the (mono) record...

Cutters Survey 2018
Fellow trolls, I'd like to make a large survey on what and how we're using our day to day equipment, supplies and consumables. Apart from satisfying our own curiosity this could allow us to track changes over time, keep a history and hopefully give information to manufacturers and other industry act...

Re: Project : Diamond stylus for lacquers
I've been digging into patents lately. I found this one (54-130001) about treating "the mirror face of a diamond cutting stylus through ion implantation" for changing the stylus conductivity. The original patents are in Japanese only. But there's a kind of google translation too.. Anyone interested ...

Re: From embossing to cutting: but... problems!
From my experience, lacquer blanks have a shelf life. The coating reacts to heat and humidity, after 25 or even 50!! I'd say they're dead.. except if they were stored in laboratory conditions? As a stylus for cutting, I'd use sapphire and ruby for softer materials, diamond for harder records. Stylus...
