You can laugh, and you probably should, but mine is made of one of these plus a few bits of PVC piping. Fits right in the stock holder.

Re: VMS 70 vacuum hose max length?
I'm running 2" hose about 20'. 100's of feet would still be fine. There's very little airflow so distance barely matters if the system is air-tight. And whatever difference there is can be compensated for with the variac.

Re: LYREC MOTOR - Swap 60Hz for 50Hz.
I don't, but when you find one, take extra care to match the run caps to the system. Mine was converted from 50Hz to 60Hz but they didn't change the run caps so the whole system was fighting with excessive motor vibration and running hot. I changed the caps and it smoothed everything out nicely. Her...

Well done!
I built a similar unit but it triggers on audio tones rather than MIDI since my DAW (Wavelab) doesn't support MIDI. It's a fantastic addition!

Be careful with the cheap ones. Some run at a fixed pitch and are far, far worse at everything than even a modest pivoting arm.

If they play that is too cool!
Maybe Kindercore or NORP?

Re: 7 inch side length question
Those times will be fine at 33. A bit long for 45, IMO. Level we be determined by distortion as much as length at 33.
Mono gives you a slight advantage since there is no added lateral movement due to vertical content. IOW, slightly better LPI economy. But not the deciding factor.

Re: What exactly is "audiophile" quality?
Audiophile is a state of mind. It's separate from sound quality. When how it's made approaches the importance of the sound coming out of the speakers then the tail is wagging the dog.

Re: VMS70/SX74/VG74B Overload when lowering head
I had this exact problem a few months ago. In my case it was the wiring harness between the suspension box and the head. The strain relief had broken on the head side and many of the wires were frayed. Once one of them finally failed the circuit breaker saw an open circuit and popped the breaker. To...

Re: Phasing problem (Mastering)
The vast majority of studio recording is done with mono mic techniques so the stereo most people are familiar with is panpot stereo. The stereo effect is due to differences in level between the left and right speaker and will usually look very narrow on a correlation meter. Most classical recordings...

Re: Phasing problem (Mastering)
What does it sound like? Lots and lots of music has wide, uncorrelated stereo content. That's what makes it sound wide. Not a flaw. A feature. That's how stereo works.
Let's assume it's correct until it sounds wrong, not when a meter looks funny.
