Re: High capacity automatic record press
Who wouldn't be interested? Injection moulded 7" records had a cycle time of 9 seconds so a 12" record that is NOT injection moulded in 5-7 seconds seems unrealistic but if you have achieved this, let us know.

Don't forget to clean the rotating leadscrew with a wooden toothpick to remove any debris.

You must NOT oil the leadscrew. See the VMS70 instruction manual.

Re: Thermal Fluids instead of Steam?
Steam is used to heat the moulds because its fast.
Water is used to cool the moulds because its fast.
Using anything else is a waste of time and money. Anything you save in power with alternative methods will be lost tenfold with low production output.

Re: PVC Recycling
You simply need a granulator and punch to punch out the label part. Make sure the throat size of the granular is sufficient to take a 12” record. Must be a granulator and not a hammer mill.

All plastics are recyclable and if you’re not going to eat it, it’s not toxic. If you want to be environmentally friendly it might be best to find another hobby and make yourself useful by collecting plastic from the beach.

Re: Cracked Labels
Heat it up a little more until you can, or at least get close to leaving a fingerprint. Don’t burn the compound in the process.

It’s too cold. Soften it up a bit and see how you go.

Your PVC puck looks somewhat dry. Can you leave a fingerprint on it?

Re: 7" pressing on a newbilt semi-automatic
Cycle time on Toolex semi-automatic presses is 15 seconds total. So, 4 x 7” discs per minute.
Your cycle time seems remarkably long. Do you have the correct figures posted here?

This is getting more interesting.
How about you tell us what you’re using so we’re not wasting time speculating about what your setup might be. This might give you more accurate responses.

Labels don’t use glue. The heat and pressure allows the labels to adhere to the record. This is something else.

Re: Pressing defect
Are your stampers "kissing" by any chance? Kissing stampers would usually damage more than just one groove but that's what this damage looks like. Is the OD of your stamper formed properly to fit snugly onto the mould? Which presses are you using?

Re: Label issues
The label area on the master disc (either lacquer or DMM) needs to be roughened so that label has something to adhere to and not crack. Also, the PVC needs to be hot enough/soft enough to prevent cracking of labels. Pressing speed also plays a role. Drying is only to remove moisture from the paper -...
