Re: Bryan's Fairchild 539A lathe project

A quick update. Thanks to MarkRob's help with this line of code, the lpiValue calculation works now and I have a valid LPI number being displayed! Thanks Mark!!!!! lpiValue = ((float)1777777.77777778 / (float)count)+0.5; //Calculate LPI based on the y=mx+B equation for 1/F vs LPI and round up. Lead ...

Re: Bryan's Fairchild 539A lathe project

So I gotta ask , has someone actually modded a rek o kut m12 with a hand crank before? I know you could come up with a solution Brian and probably find the task pretty straight forward n easy, but has anyone else following this thread done it with a rek o kut m12? Hi Patrick. I don't think you got ...

Re: Bryan's Fairchild 539A lathe project

Here is a quick update on the Fairchild project. Lots of progress, but still missing a few key components. Right now I'm still missing the "One Way Bearings" (discussed later) and the "Thrust Bearings". I'm also missing both the flexible shaft coupler ( 1/4" to 6mm) and the even more flexible silico...

Re: Bryan's Fairchild 539A lathe project

Have you had a look at the TMC2100 stepper drivers? I looked at them yesterday. Interesting. But I already have 3 spare LE drives sitting around from a previous project. They look like below. The front cover comes off to expose dip switches where you set motor current, number of steps per rev and s...

Re: Bryan's Fairchild 539A lathe project

Hey guys - long time no post. I started messing with the lathe again a few weeks ago. A little here, a little there. I wanted to figure out what RPM was needed for specific LPI. So the first thing to do was to measure my lead screw. If found it's a 32 pitch. My lathe came with 4 interchangeable gear...

Alan Graves 45 found

Thought you guys would get a kick out of this. The wife and I were going through her records today, and I found this 45! Apparently, my wife's cousin was in a performance of Hello Dolly many years ago and it looks like our very own Alan Graves recorded it and cut some 45's. IMG_5830[1].JPG I wonder ...

I've found mine is actually 32 TPI.

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build

It's not the board I have, which is pictured below and comes directly from Analog Devices. I see. What you show is what they call "EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ - Limited Capability Evaluation Board : Cost $195". The small board (JTAG) I think people also call a USBi - your interface between the studio softwa...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build

We all should be playing with this. I downloaded the software and watched a few videos. Amazing! I'm thinking this might be the ticket for an automatic pitch controller. It could even do the look ahead / delay function, in addition to HF limiting, iRIAA and probably depth control too. Crazy. What d...

Re: Hanoi Amator Project (HAP)

You have a pretty course pitch lead screw there. The pulley ratio you have might be in the ball park for lead in / lead out - hard to tell from the video. If you swap the pulleys, it will get you closer to a reasonable rotation for normal grooves but still looks to fast for that lead screw to me. Ca...

Re: Presto 8dg overhead only hand cranks?

You might want to play with the collar on the right side of the lead screw.
Yours is set right now for inside to out but might not actually be fully engaged.

For outside to inside it should be positioned like mine is in the photo below:

No problem. Measure and cut as needed. Sharp Dikes work fine. File the ends if needed. I've done the same per MarkRob's advice on aluminum shanks with zero issues.

Re: Two MONO cutter heads and one Amp?

Would you actually try it with your own gear if you were me? Im still a noob at all of this Since they are both 8 ohm, I would run two amps. Mainly because I'm sure there will be a different sensitivity (volts needed for 5cm/s reference) between the two. Using 2 amps you can set both levels correct...

Re: Bryan's Presto 8D mod's for Ortofon DSS stereo head!

The next step was to work on a mount. I prototyped several versions in plastic until I was happy, and then handed the prototype to a machinist up the street. Shown here on the left is my plastic version with the Angled mounting piece supplied with the head. The angled part attaches to the head and h...
