Re: How I make needles now.

This sounds really interesting, it seems like the image links are broken though - maybe a permissions thing?

Is there a maximum pitch speed?

Hi, My pitch control runs off software I've programmed myself. Currently I enter the length of the track, it adds 2 seconds either side of track. Then does a speed/LPI calculation based from distance/time. At the time I thought this would be the most effective way to set the pitch. However, I am now...

Re: Plotter / Cutter for labels and sleeves

I'm using a cameo 4, it works well when it works. Occasionally it'll start mis-registering and I'll have to restart the cameo, the computer or make a weird face and it'll start working again I'm reluctant to use it to cut sleeves as I worry about the adhesive from the cutting mat transfering to the ...

Re: Ever so slightly successful stereo embossing

I'm using an aliexpress lapidary table, seems to work okay for embossing stylus, but I'm looking into modifying a D-Bit Grinder...

I've made a (very brief) video of the process for instagram, which I've uploaded on youtube.

Re: Ever so slightly successful stereo embossing

Hi Juba, is that with the platter rotation reversed too? If not, I'd love to hear if there is a difference!

Ever so slightly successful stereo embossing

I've been attempting to emboss a stereo signal into PC, I've read a few things saying it is possible to emboss stereophonic information, but the playback of that information isn't possible - possibly to do with the 'lean-back' of the cutting head when embossing. I was curious as to what would happen...

Re: Platter mats (and an extra long spindle)

I ended up using 1.5mm neoprene for my mats - there's an old old thread where it's mentioned. I just spray glued to my steel platter, it works, and it's pretty flat

Re: Lockdown turntable and lathe - a DIY project

Mark, your knowledge and skill sets always blows me away. My thoughts on using a PWM to control the carriage is probably a bit cowboy By taking the processing load off the arduino, it would control the PWM signal entirely with timing rather than absolute position. However I haven't had an issue with...

Re: JE-4887

Yup! I'm in Christchurch, might be visiting Wellington soon in the future.Z I'll test the sorbathane and see if it makes a difference vs the neoprene I'm currently using for the back damper. - I'm imagining it'll make the biggest difference in the armature clamp, I'm having the same issue as you - t...

Re: JE-4887

Acorn Models is my go to for piano wire - fishpond sells sorbothane. I think the shipping time is pretty quick, my payment didnt quite go through till Saturday. I'll let you know how it goes when it arrives.

Where are you based in NZ?

Re: Lockdown turntable and lathe - a DIY project

This is very similar to how I've approached it, however I've been using a single arduino to control an AD9833 chip which sends a square wave to an integrated servo to control the turntable motor - I imagine this method could also control the carriage motors, however I'm using and accelstepper librar...

Re: JE-4887

It's a piano wire silver soldered to the armature, but I guess it could be considered brazed, I'm using a map gas torch, and should probably buy a jewellers torch. I load up the armature with cutting fluid where I don't want the silver to go, and then wipe the parts I do want the solder to flow to w...

Re: JE-4887

Epoxy Granite is a very interesting material. I'd maybe consider making the case for the stereo head from an epoxy granite.

Re: JE-4887

I think the stereo heads would be more do-able after doing this. I'm intending to try and make coil formers that attach to the armature/torque tube from something like brass so there can be a solid brazed/soldered connection. I'm imagining the difficulty may be in making alignment jigs. The stereo h...

I've been playing around with designs for moving iron cutting heads for awhile - I guess I took Gridlock's advice to heart. I had a couple of successes trying to build a Presto 1-C/D style cutting head, but without a cutting head in hand it was difficult to get something consistent and reliable, alt...

Re: holding a stylus and reducing mass

I'd suggest using a mono head/moving iron head if embossing, if simplifies a few things, stereo information is (from what I've seen and heard) impossible to emboss, so if you were to make a stereo head you need a lot of accuracy to ensure the two channels are lined up perfectly to give you lateral m...

Presto 1-D Part Dimensions

Hey,

Can anyone provide me with dimensions for any of the parts for a Presto 1-D?

I'm mostly interested in the armature and pole pieces, I've got the measurements for the bobbins, I've tried scaling from photos, but something still seems out.

Cheers.

I'm looking for any spare Presto 1-D parts, a pole piece, armature, back plate...

Does anyone have anything about?
