Thanks for the info!

The challenger in the box, would the presto amp work?

Is there any additional processing equipment that would be needed?

Also, some 78 jukes need an eccentric runout groove to activate the auto-changer mechanism

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management

Not wishing to move this thread even further from the original point as the pressed Vs VR cuts thing has been done to death, BUT, there are some pretty awful sounding (not to mention warped) pressed records knocking about these days...

Warped Pressings

Hi All,

Around 70% of the new records I've bought in the last 5 or 6 years have been warped. What's going on?

Assuming the reverse module is the same motor, how can it be 195 EUR?
Bulk buying, perhaps? One of the more puzzling aspects of Mr S's business practice is how cheap he sells his home made kit Vs the mark-up he adds on to third party items like the VU meters, amplifier, dial indicator etc.

Re: Vinyl Recorder T560 Overhead Motor

Parts are incoming!!! :D :D :D At last, the nightmare is almost over. I will document reassembly... In a bizzare twist of fate, I actually have a second VR on it's way to me in order to help with the backlog, but once that's out of the way, it's gone. Strictly Presto from now on! Anybody looking to ...

I have had no contact from Souri for 2 weeks (assuming at this points he's possibly cut me off for some unknown reason)
Sounds very familiar, though it's also not unusual for him to go AWOL from time to time...

Presto 6N/8N original spec leather washers

Hi all, I've had some of these washers made, the ones that sit under the idlers. I've found it helps to put one above too. I know some people use fibre washers, but the original ones were leather. Some N.O.S spares came with my 8Ns, so I had them copied. Anyway, I've got more than I'll ever need. Le...

I've got a Presto 6N for sale. with the Nightingale it would make a MUCH heavier dutier lathe than a VR. DM me if you are interested.
Will the Nightingale fit a 6N??

Re: Blank Importing to UK in 2021

I should probably add that those blanks were ordered at the beginning of January, so things may have changed since then. I've certainly experienced long delays receiving other things ordered from the EU that just appear to be sat in courier depots awaiting processing. As an aside, I know of at least...

Still waiting. 5 months to the day this has been dragging on for... As soon as it's repaired, I'm selling it. I still intend to share as much info as possible with the community before I do, but don't have the time at the moment. Anyway, it might be worth using a double nut technique, where the supp...

Re: Graphic equalisers

Hey, hat's off to you going down the DIY route... I wouldn't worry too much about producing an exact RIAA curve. Any open loop/non-feedback head is going to have all sorts of bumps & dips in it's response. Also, the lower portion of the curve will be pretty much taken care of by the 6dB/oct falling ...

Re: Presto 6N vs T560... differences?

As an engineer, on paper, the 560 (with an SP-15 or higher) wins hands-down. man, we have to wildly disagree on that one. The 8n is the most well designed and built portable lathe I've ever seen (and I've seen a LOT of different lathes). The only real negative is the idler drive which, when set up ...

Re: Vinyl Recorder T560 Overhead Motor

Wanted to revisit and see if everything worked out for you in the end? Still waiting on parts to be made. Pandemic has turned this into a bit of a saga, plus I thought that I'd make a couple of improvements to the design whilst it's dismantled. A properly mounted motor, replacing the gaffer tape/si...

Re: Presto 6N vs T560... differences?

+1 for the 6N. I don't own one, but I do own two 8N's and a 560. I'm planning on selling the 560, but you'd have to prize the 8N's from my cold, dead hands and even then I'd haunt you! As an engineer, on paper, the 560 (with an SP-15 or higher) wins hands-down. If you're new to cutting though, I thi...

Re: WTB T560

I'm hoping to part with mine later this year. I can offer training and support. I'm currently having new parts made for the overhead, hoping to improve on the design a bit in the process as the motor output shaft's bearing housing wasn't straight and it eventually destroyed the reduction head... and...
