Re: Vinyl Recorder in the future

I hope so
At this point I don't know of another place where to get the vinyl blanks for the VR.

Re: Vinyl Recorder in the future

NB: Please no negative rants about Souri. I'm sick of this negativity; it sickens the atmosphere on this otherwise fantastic forum.

Vinyl Recorder in the future

I was wondering about the following... In the future, at some point sooner or later, Souri will retire from his business. I understand that he is the only person who manufactures the blank discs for his VR. Correct me if Im wrong. The same thing about repair of the cuttinghead or getting spare parts...

Re: Melted Plastic On Stylus

I did the resistor mod a while ago, At 45 it worked out fine but at 33 i had speed hunting issues. Its an easy mod and easy to undo ofcourse. Thanks... I think it's best for now (for me) to live with the torque issue. After some months more I'll think about buying the precision motor. I heard there...

Re: Should the board have more sub-forums?

I'll welcome more subsections like you suggest; Neumann, Scully, Presto, and Souri's vinyl recorder. I personally like the site Muffwiggler (modular synthesizers) which is divided in several sections covering different type of systems. With each system covering several brands. It also has a marketpl...

Re: Melted Plastic On Stylus

.... Thanks for the info Yes, I've made sure the alignment is perfect. The weight of the cuttinghead is already very light. When I make it lighter, the groove vanishes at some points or the stylus of my recordplayer skips... I may begin starting to use stylus heating very carefuly. I read somewhere...

Re: VR stylus angle VS cutterhead angle

How can one ever trust these photo's since they're all shot from different angles and never exactly parallel to the cuttinghead (from the side). There is always a warp / distortion in the picture with cheap camera's like Iphones and such. This is no reference.

Re: Melted Plastic On Stylus

Yes Acetone is your friend.... Much thanks! Yes, I soon found out the suction is very important. Emptying the container every new cutting day. I've indeed taken my time cleaning the stylus. I've used the bottle I got from Souri. It's prob acetone. It took me hours to get rid of everything. Perhaps ...

Re: about lifetime of stylus (with vinyl recorder T560)

Update: I lowered the setting of the groove distancer and lowered the weight of the cutter and it's much better since. Really love the sound of the VR. Super warm & lively sound. Don't understand all the negativity about souri's machine because it's a genius build. Like everything, you first need to...

Re: melted vinyl on stylus

To be more precise, I have stylus cleaner. Just like to know when I apply the stuff, how long it has to stay on the stylus and how to proceed from there. Will it fully dissolve the plastic and can I simply wipe it with a cloth?

Melted Plastic On Stylus

I looked under the microscope to my stylus which apparently is covered with melted plastic.

Do you mean the precision motor from Souri?

Re: about lifetime of stylus (with vinyl recorder T560)

Is it possible I simply need to recallibrate the pitch of the SL1210 MKII ?

Or is there something else I can adjust at the VR?

I already checked the allignment of the VR axis which was fine.

Re: about lifetime of stylus (with vinyl recorder T560)

I don't think a difference of 3-5 grams would be super detrimental. What turntable are you using, does the wow happen in the inner and outer diameters of the same blank? I would guess the wow is a bigger issue somewhere else, maybe the dashpot setting, or turntable torque issue. I changed the weigh...

Re: about lifetime of stylus (with vinyl recorder T560)

To revive this topic; can someone tell me if it's harmful for the stylus if the weight is too heavy? I've measured it now at 22 gram. Haven't tested it yet. Before, I had it around 19-20 gram (it's a used stylus from Souri) but had trouble with wow. The lighter I made it (15 gr) the more wow. so I '...

Re: Cant Get rid of squeaks on cuts, im using a VR, Help!!!

Thanks for your help mate, Ill try another cut when the new stylus arrives, As for weight, I weigh the backweight about 45g and as for the weight of the head i can only get a cut without wow when that is about 10g! But im using a horrible springscale i got with the set up and im starting to doubt t...

Multiple T560 cutting at the same time?

Is there a possibility to have multiple T560 lathes cutting synchronized at the same time?
Can it be done through an added midi control together with a DAW? Or are there people who simply use a remote control connected to all lathes? Sorry if it has been asked before, could not find it in search.
