Re: Lacquer Shipping Boxes

Cool!

What type of wood is it?
Do you put it inside of a cardboard box as well? or do you tape up the lid?
If not, how well does it prevent dust & other particles from getting in?

Re: strange noise problem

Personal Vent: This same issue with intermitted loud hiss has been going on way way too long and over many many batches of both transco and apollo. "According to the plant the drying process happened under to low air humidity conditions." We've been hearing excuses like this for years.. I think they...

Re: strange noise problem

Thanks Andreas, We've heard this remedy from Apollo and others as well. It seems to be helpful for some. It is a bandaid remedy though. Hopefully Apollo will get to the bottom of the issue at some point. All of this is taking it's tole in terms of time and money spent with trouble shooting & recuts....

Re: strange noise problem

-Are you cutting in Lacquer? -Are you using Apollo/Trancso or MDC? -Is it a "hiss" that enters mainly on one channel, then slowly rises in volume before cutting out? If so, then it's most likely a lacquer issue. This has been occurring on 12" and 14" Apollo/Transco intermittently for about 1 year or...

Re: Distortion after Pressing

It's rare but it has happened. It's possible that the lacquer refs had more springback than the master lacquers. (creating a difference in top end and hence hi-freq tracking distortion on the pressing) -Also it's possible that having played the lacquer ref could round or soften the sharp edges of a ...

Re: vinyl lacqure

I Agree, at least in the initial stages using a recycled disc is the way to go.
There are plenty of "perfectly good" scrap discs laying against the walls of cutting studios around the world.
you want to remove all lacquer, and polish the disc to a mirror finish.

Re: vinyl lacqure

Hi Jose, Thanks for posting this. If what you are saying is that you have documentation and knowledge of lacquer formulations for creating lacquer masters, then you are in a unique position. Most aspects of vinyl record production have been expanding (record labels, new pressing plants, new masterin...

Re: "Vinyls" and other new words for old things

I think some of it is lack of mentoring and/or desire to learn more than "just getting it to work." Many of the people working in the world of "vinyl's productioning" are figuring it out on their own and hence invent words to fill gaps in knowledge. Re: Labels not listening to TP's. Similar thing, m...

Re: TRANSCO/APOLLO Stopped producing DUB PLATES

I don't know if the vinyl world senses the urgency,...but if Apollo is unable to make lacquers do to earthquake or other reason, all new record production for non-dmm facilities stops. All the lacquer cutting studios, all pressing plants, all plating facilities, all the investments people have in se...

Re: Creating fades for side splits from CD master

In that situation where you're "on your own" without any instructions, I would make a digital file of the fade and ftp it to the person in charge of the project. (or the person paying) Let them hear it and tell you it's ok or not. Now you've reached out and done you're best. If nobody responds, tell...
