Re: Questions about my set up. New Presto user.

Where in Oregon are you? To my understanding, Eugene is the record lathe capitol of Oregon. Especially for Presto gear. Stop on by sometime. I'll show you what works best for the anti static wax! (Spoiler alert: pabst blue ribbon)

I will refer this subject to the eternal question; how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Re: Hanoi Amator Project (HAP)

No dude don't flip the stylus around like that unless your cutting head is REALLY HEAVY. you want to glide over the plastic sheet with your sword blazing audio fidelity thing ripping the surface of the disc. Perhaps wipe some of the extra static bits and washing with warm water before playback. But ...

Re: Hanoi Amator Project (HAP)

Haha that looks great. From your diagram I would use angle 1 or 3. How is the playback? You should post a sample of that. It almost looks like you're cutting on ACRYLIC and not PVC? I doubt you will get enough power from that turntable motor but to experiment

Re: Stylus Length for Presto J-5 with Audax Cutter?

Sounds good just make sure you don't over drive the head or put the wrong ohms in it. You can easily line up a fuse to prevent head damage. 1 amp quick blow fuse should do nice until you get comfortable and want to beef it up a tiny bit. As far as angle for cutting, 90° straight up and down on the s...

Re: Stylus Length for Presto J-5 with Audax Cutter?

You can adjust the height of the head on the back of it with 2 screws. Try not to strip them when readjusting. That will be how you adjust whether the needle is pointed straight down or not also. If you use a long shank, adjust the head higher and for a short shank adjust it lower Hope this helps an...

Re: Me, Myself & I are new on this forum

OK so J and K and Y series arm swings on the same path that a normal tone arm does and is carried by a little lead screw thing underneath the platter. The N series, and I think all others, there is a big complicated (very simple actually) mechanism that rests one end where a regular tone arm would a...

Re: Presto 75A 1C Head

You bet your bottom lip there is a way. Record to tape at the highest speed possible then bump it down slow while cutting at 33 rpm. You can boost every frequency when it's all slow like that. It is akin to "half speed mastering" plus surface noise will be higher in pitch -easier to filter out in pl...
