bad idler wheels, or dirt on the inside of the rim of the platter could give you thuds or a rumble..

So it looks like its not legal to use this material as a source for live performance. Absolutely 100% correct.. The amount that comes out of the tube into the cutterhead is so small that is would never have a noticeable affect. I really think you should see Helium in use. if you want your recordings inadvertently colored by your head coolant, then I guess keep sucking helium out of the ground... noble gasses vibrate at different frequencies, and since helium is a noble gas you'll add that frequency to the recording by resonating through the metal structure of the rec...

Ohm meter and visual inspection.. from my experience, it's really hard to blow out the coils on a presto head.. you have to really want to do it...
